Go-around!

Post by Chris_Redfield09 »

A go-around is when the pilot decides to abort a landing. This can be at anytime during the approach and for any thing the pilot is unsure about. I feel this maneuver has been slightly forgotten about. It is a pretty easy maneuver to pull off, add power and climb, but it seems not very many pilots actually do it when it should have been required. There are so many different situations and factors that go into deciding to make a go-around that we need to keep in mind also, don't fixate on what your landing on. I just want to remind the pilots that are out there flying that a go-around is much better then the embarrassment of crashing, and then having to wait for a re-spawn while you could have been up in the air still. Do you think of go-around when you can sense a bad landing? or do you try to stick it?

I go around, or find a rooftop which has a staircase (in a city).

Roof landings are stupid unless the entire map is confirmed no HAT, LAT or AA occupied.
If you cant land in a landing or close enough area then do a go-around but never land on a roof.

Landing on a roof is definitely a high risk maneuver, but possible. I think a go-around from a roof is also more challenging because there are often random objects on top of a roofs that become serious obstacles when trying to depart. You've got a much higher chance of getting a skid stuck in something on a roof, making the go-around not possible.

There are some times when it is completely appropriate. As long as you get in and out quickly, there shouldn't be a problem. I do it somewhat frequently at Muttrah City with great success. I usually don't die in a round of Muttrah, if I do it's maybe only once. So no, they aren't necessarily stupid.

If you miss the first landing they definitely are and this is what they are talking about.
