Project Reality Magazine - Recruitment and Discussion

Post by dtacs »

APPLICATIONS CLOSE IN ONE WEEK (SATURDAY 10th APRIL)

PR Magazine (R-MAG) Recruitment & Discussion thread

Recruitment:

1. What?

As one can see from the thread that was just discussed, a few of the PR players have decided to have a knack at making a PR magazine.

2. Who?

From what I have taken below the following people are willing to be involved:

  • dtacs
  • anglomanii
  • PlasmaSoldier
  • Tahanatos (aka Sithis)
Be aware that for now this is a prototype project to see if it is feesable. We will not be making a final prototype product until we have valid reasons for and against, a list of avaliable assets, and people required to fill certain positions. Off the top of my head, these positions are:

  • Overall magazine coordinator
  • Deputy coordinator
  • Editor
  • Assistant editor
  • Proof readers (would appreciate Dev involvement in this)
  • Article writing crew (individual articles followed & regular ones)
  • Graphic design crew (PS/Illustrator knowledge needed)
I am not nominating myself for anything, but for now I suggest people post here for what positions they would like to fill, and send my a PM of why they believe they should do it, for now I will be the temporary resource manager, or whatever.

3. How?

Express your interest by posting in this thread here and confirm it by sending me a PM of example work.

This for now is a temporary thread until we get this whole thing sorted out. But there is no doubt that this is making headway.

4. What requirements are there for joining the R-MAG staff?

Apart from maturity and common sense there are a few attributes you will need:
  • The ability to reach a deadline and not be tardy with required work
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to take criticism, which at times may be destructive rather than constructive.
  • A sense of humor/wit.
  • Ability to work with others regardless of views on games, technology, military discussion, etc.
Constant infighting and inability to produce work by deadlines will result in removal from the R-MAG.

Do not spam this thread with useless ****, including reasons why the magazine is a bad idea. It is a prototype for now, if it sucks the first time round, we don't have to do it again, which is the glory of unofficial projects.

I can be contacted at [email protected], or by PM. Whenever I am online I will be on Xfire (domsbf2).

Discussion:

There are areas open for discussion from the R-MAG staff and from the general PR public.

Here are some things we are looking for:

  • The shortened name of the magazine (R-MAG was something suggested as a title in the other thread, it is NOT a tag to be used in game or on the forums, and is simply a shortened naming of the magazine. If any PR developers or managers have a problem with this, the abbreviation can be changed.
  • Regular article ideas (example: screenshot of the week, player of the week interview, forum quote of the week, dev interview, and so forth)
  • Length of the magazine (A4 PDF pages, etc)
  • Format (does not have to be PDF, we can practically confirm this will NOT be print media)
  • Target market discussion (can this contain more than PR information, what about other BSS games?)
  • Dates and times (is the magazine going to be yearly, monthly, daily? What would be the ideal date to read the R-MAG?
We are looking for well structured and competent posts, free of personal insults.

regards,

Dom (dtacs).

Well, I used to write reviews and do some in the field research, all concerning mods, for 1.5 years until November 2009 in a gaming magazine. But I need to think about this.

Nonetheless, nice idea there. Just wondering, what exactly would you write about?

I personally would like to have a section in the magazine that focuses on the Commander and/or Squad leader. You can look this up in my app. I would want the section to be called "The Officer's Lounge" or "The Command Tent" or something along those lines.....

We could have a review/preview section from the standpoint of PR realism.
The critic could give his two cents, and then say (for example)"
COD: MW2
Reality Score: 3
+Good graphics
+Fast game play

-Low teamwork
-Small maps
-Low Realism

ect ect...

Hey there. Just throwing in some ideas. If you like any of them feel free to pick up on them.

I could imagine a reasonable release cycle to be every 1-3 months depending on how much content you plan to create.

Length would be my least concern. Just put everything in that is of good quality. Readers can always skip things. Just make sure everything is arranged in a meaningful way.

Type of articles that I think would make sense:
  • PR news & highlights (from the according forum threads. Might be an idea to flesh them out with small interviews, etc. if appropriate)
  • Behind the scenes: Interviews with members of the team about a certain topic. e.g a modeler's work, making of a map and things like that
  • News from the front lines: AAR highlights from the forums or done by the editor
  • PR in the movies: Articles about the best PR videos found on the web
  • The Officers Club: Tactics and Advice for SLs and the Commander
  • The Boot Camp: Tips and tricks for players new to PR
  • The rant corner: A place where people can write about things they do not like about PR and why.
  • It came from the off-topic: Things that are not directly related to PR but may be of interest to the PR community. E.g. Dslyecxi's ArmA2 guide. Releases of other BF2 mods or tactical shooters. etc etc....

I was thinking today, I guess I could give it a go.

But still, dtacs you need to specify what is all going to make up the magazine. :)

We are still organizing a staff team before we get into this.

It hasn't been 24 hours yet, once we get the staff downpat and have a POC within the Dev team (is being organized with the management) we are going to talk about the basics before the actual magazine format.

You see, before a project is actually developed there needs to be alot of talk.

You need to walk before you can run.

Hopefully enough people will want to express themselves so each "section" (or a majority of the sections) will have many people to work on them. Usually collaboration works better.

Here is a thought:

Maybe a long running piece in the PR mag could be a "storyline" for each faction.

Maybe have "Russian" News that would feature Russian developments (i.e. what the Devs are doing with the faction).

Then one could write about how Russian strategy in PR. IDK, just a thought to highlight specific factions during specific magazine releases.

Oh, and we should definitely have a server section which gives dates of events e.g. a calender.

I hope I make it on the team, but the waiting is killing me... lol!

What do you guys think?

Perhaps, spotlighting a different PR clan in each issue? or maybe "Recruitment Ads" in the back "pages" from various PR clans?

Rant corner wuld not be appropriate though, because i imagine spreading this magazine all over internetz, new people will se that and get eyes on the abd stuff... place for that are forums i believe...

Kind of like Trying to sell a Ferrari and putting "i dont like it how slow it is at the start, the main problem is the gearbox, it has issues, fuel leak happened on mine and friends too..." :D
