Mumble is about realistic communication and tactics, NOT realistic sound.

I am still indetermined.
I would prefer 2 when there was a separate button to local talk in both channels.

2 channels. im pretty sure youd try to not make yourself audible to a potential enemy around the corner (or 30m through a wall).

voted 2
1 is more "fun"... I remember playing on RT Mumble server and I heard fuzzhead inside Mosque flag (Muttrah) organizing his squad not giving damn about the fact we, the enemy, can hear him (lots of newbz in my team). They were covering the door really good (AR and R), so I faked to be friendly guy by saying "HOLD FIRE, HOLD FIRE, FRIENDLY ENTERING - DON'T SHOOT!" while I was about to enteri the room.
If the engine could only render their wtf face expressions when I entered the room firing like crazy at three of them with their rifles lowered...
I didn't really kill anybody, but we all had a good laugh afterwards.
BUT - the sad fact is, you use mumble more often on two channel, than on one in close combat.
Everyone turns voip when enemy is close, and that sucks.
Two channel mumble set brings awesomeness to CQB.

yeah king, the 1 channel can be pretty fun sometimes
achmed the friendly civilian has been online many times
"come with me american, I show you cache"
*turns corner*
3 AKs open fire
also it makes them not shoot you
"do not shoot, I am not armed" worked very well
just had an idea...

Ye with one channel you can talk to enemies which is a lot more fun on insurgency maps. When you are driving in a convoy and you start hearing "ALLAH AKBAR" all around you, you know youre fuc***.

On the other hand its way more realistic if the enemy can hear you if you're not cautious enough when you're in enemy territory.octo-crab wrote:2, helps alleviate the tardish "haha I killed you, you suck" behavior.
I voted channel 1 for this reason while i assume that most people who prefer the challenge of a reality mod like PR are mostly mature enough to not pee their pants in happiness over a kill and start taunting the other player...
(With an acception for tanker noobs of course)

you just have to listen for footsteps, weapons fire, emotes rather than for the voices that they cannot change the volume off, which can be heard 70m away no matter what obstructions are in between...
yeah cuz tanker noobs like shooting people from 500m away, then driving over their bodies over and over shouting "PWNED PWNED PWNED"....if anything tankers are among the only people who don't get to taunt in teh 1 system...(With an acception for tanker noobs of course)

Re: Which Mumble "style" do you prefer?
Both are unrealistic:
1 chan:
understand enemy talk
Not being able to use hand signals
being heard through buildings etc
2 chan:
Not hearing the enemy in the first place.
So neither is realistic, so its down to gameplay/attitude it promotes, in which 2 wins out IMO.

Why are u using mumble when you can be using Voip? even on a 2 chan system, VoIp is FAR superior. Mumble is an addition to VoiP, not a replacement.[R-DEV]crazy11 wrote:The problem with one channel I find is that whenever you get close to the enemy then everyone switches to VOIP which then makes mumble pointless. I think that is the biggest reason why people want two channels other than the taunting.

2 channels
But 1 channel on insurgent or insurgent collaborators can go on blufor channel, representing english speaking taunting of blufor that does happen.
Just an off the wall idea which would be very labour intensive to admin.
Or once a week/month/year a one channel T-Bag (why is it called T Bagging?) night?
I do appreciate these are a bit silly, but quite alot have remarked that one channel is more fun as insurgent...
Gazz IMO VOIP is better in vehicles with squadies with the noise cancelling feature otherwise the speed and quality of mumble is so much better.

Re: Which Mumble "style" do you prefer?
VoIp should always be used for squad coms, i see no reason for using mumble within a squad in a normal situation maybe if u have an APC/people separated then yes. Again, mumble isnt a replacement for voip, just an addition to it.PLODDITHANLEY wrote: Gazz IMO VOIP is better in vehicles with squadies with the noise cancelling feature otherwise the speed and quality of mumble is so much better.

1 For sure!
Less asking whats the right team, less confusion...
simple is better.
Oh and edit...
If there was a whispering option and VOIP turned off... still 1 channel wins
