Contrary to my original opinion of having 2 channels, I voted for single channel.
The reasons for using 2 channels is to be able to communicate between squads. However, using 1 channel will bring a bit more realism to the game.

---

There are a few unavoidable problems with single channel though.

Mumble is an adjustable program that can be used to listen to people beyond your normal hearing range (super hearing).
People will not use mumble for fear of being heard by the enemy, turning to the protected in-game VoIP instead.
Mumble is not the original BF2 VoIP software (meaning people are not forced to use it) so if people don't like it, they won't use it, reducing inter-squad communication.

---

Because of the above mentioned problems, I redress my vote for 1 channel Mumble, and if it were possible, I would request that my vote be changed to 2 channel.

I still like to point out the fact that using 2 channels leads to an unavoidable massive cheat. How often haven't you been warned by a wounded guy that there are enemies on his body even if he wasn't in your squad? Because of that 1 channel is more realistic.

1...

2... reasons:

1: more fun, when you shout "ENEMIES NORTH EAST!" and you kill a whole squad coming with shooting them in the backs -> pure epic :D

2: easier to use, "eh is that MEC?" - "NO! STOP FORCE CENTERING!". changing teams along mumble channels sucks >.>

With a whispering function Mumble would be absolutely EPIC.

Oh.. I'd choose 1 channel over two any day. I play PR for fun more often than not, and 2 channels just makes joining a server with Mumble more hassle than it needs to be..

yeah cuz tanker noobs like shooting people from 500m away, then driving over their bodies over and over shouting "PWNED PWNED PWNED"....if anything tankers are among the only people who don't get to taunt in teh 1 system...

Tankers are some of the most pathetic players in the entire game... (taunting or not)
But they are fun as hell to blow to pieces so im not complaning! :)

Btw your post really cracked me up after a hard day at work, thanks mate! :P

No matter what settings I change, Voip is horribly quiet, why I try to get people to use mumble.

Playing this game, AND dealing with bulls*t you hear on Mumble is more than enough challenge thank you very much, without hearing bulls*t from the other team. Mumble sounds great and all, but is only useful in a match situation, where you know your team, and you already have a group dynamic. In a pubbing situation, mumble becomes useless to me fast, as most of the folk tend to chatter too much, and I already hear enough **** at work.

All that being said, Mumble, in practice and in concept, IS awesome. Retards, however, are NEVER awesome on Mumble.

I'm very interested in your reasoning. Because I believe it doesn't improve anything.
It's just, do you want to hear your opponents on mumble or not. It doesn't have anything to do with your own team, which you can still hear in both options.

I'm afraid you are incorrect, when the enemy can hear you people become alot more inhibited on mumble.

In fact some people wont speak at all, instead using it as 'enemy radar'

people won't use it as a teamwork tool if the enemy can hear you, full stop.

Hehe. You're still as stubborn as ever aren't you uncle Odds'. :p

I don't fly much but I can imagine the chatter you half-hear as you fly over everyone as Mumble can't position vertically. I bet it can be annoying for jet pilots.

Or commander. Its hell hearing EVERYTHING from both teams on one channel.

But its a dam lot of fun talking to the enemy and having to whisper when they're close

Side notes:
2 channels is like being able to give silent hand signals to nearby troops. Saying "enemy on second floor" would be like giving the hand signals for it that the other team would not hear.

If mumble was able to make the voicecomms of the other team gibberish but audible, people would still just go to VOIP to avoid the enemy hearing.

;-)

I prefer 2 channels, but one channel works okay too.
