Add rifleman specialist and standard rifleman to requestible kit list.

Post by snooggums »

I thought there was already a thread for this but I did not find one while searching for 'rifleman' over the last 6 months.

Please add the Rifleman (scoped and unscoped like the officer on right left click) and the rifleman specialist to the requestible kit selection menu. Many times i have been in more need of a rope than a LAT kit, yet unless someone dies and respawns the specialist kit is unavailable. It also restricts the soldier from dropping a request kit and going back to a basic rifleman if the squad's objectives change. There should be no reason to have to trade a sniper kit for a grenadier kit if one is not needed, but there is no other way to get rid of the kit.

You can generally find standard kits everywhere now that they hang around for 5 minutes

Wouldn't hurt to put it in the list anyway. Especially now that you can drop kits - what if you actually surrendered, the enemy for some reason did NOT shoot you - you escape to the nearest forward outpost and need a rifleman kit again? Of course, they lie around, but maybe you're (un)lucky and no friendly rifleman died for some time.

It's a resuggestion, but with the new drop kit stuff, I think it's a somewhat different situation now.

at least would keep people from taking specialised kits just cause they want another kit...

How long can the list be though? That is the question.

If it can be as long as the screen I suggest putting in the ability for ALL kits, so we can have iron sighted spawn kits as well, like an M4 irons for rifleman.

This would be a major change

This problem has happened to me quite a few times, and is probably one of the most irritating in-game issues.

The only thing you would have to watch for is people requesting rifleman kits just for the ammo bags and leaving them. maybe just make riflemen specialist requestable instead.

if it included every kit in the game, it wouldnt be THAT long. definitly not long enough to really be a hassle to anyone.

IDK, I feel the rifleman should be requestable, if you have everything else requestable, why keep one set of kits out?

Getting ammo from an ammo crate doesn't seem too broken.

I often find myself ignoring antitank kits or whatever for the specialist kit, because you can't request it back. It isn't a big deal though as it's pretty easy to find it on the ground now the kits stay for 5 minutes. There's always a rope somewhere.

standard rifleman = ammo spam

but i'd like to see a right click option on sniper for rifle specialist, as that kit is probably the best counterpart

+1 for this suggestion, thought about it many times.

Why would you do that instead of just waiting for the ammo crate itself to automatically rearm you?

It may increase the chances of someone spamming ammo bags next to the crate, but I can't imagine that having any negative gameplay impact.

Can then make the ammo crate last forever, since requesting kits don't deplete the ammo from the create. Also 6 ammo bags (requested an entire squad) would get make you reload a lot quicker, then having to wait for a long time.

Faster reload, enemies can reload, less use for a medic sine patches are plenty because of the ammo.

The specialist kit, yes much needed. The rifleman kit, only at main base/repair station, nowhere else.

I would be happy with just the specialist to be honest, but I would like the rifleman. I would also support having the requesting of a kit reduce the amount of ammo remaining in the crate if that was possible to counter the ammo spam and also reflect the using of the crate for a kit.

ie have the requested kit reduce the crate's remaining ammo by X so it will self destruct faster to reflect the ammo that is included in the kit (although probably not 1:1 for all items, but some amount).

It's ammo spam because you can request kits off an APC. Which might have run out of ammo boxes. I know it doesn't seem like a huge exploit. But it would be. Think about 6 people requesting kits and throwing down 6 ammo packs for a HAT, that's 6 additional missiles he shouldn't really have.

Or with less teamwork, spawn in as rifleman scoped, run to firing location, drop your bag, run back to crate, get an iron sight kit and go back and drop another ammo. Then go request your HAT kit and run back to your personal ammo stash.

You see this type of ammo bag spam happening now around Taliban caches since the kits stay around for 5mins, people pick em up and drop a bag. Because bags give you ammo faster than a crate or cache.

Simple solution would be to add another kit with the same load-out minus the ammo bag.

Simply make rifleman only requestable where ammo can also be obtained. Of course, it's faster, but that really doesn't seem like a huge exploit to me.

After thinking about this problem of requesting kits with ammo bags, I might have come up with a solution. But, I don't know enough about the BF2 system to know if it's even possible.

My idea is to create additional versions of the rifleman kits, but they would start out without an ammo bag loaded. This way, if you request a rifleman kit off a crate or APC, you get the kit, but if you want the ammobag, you need to stand at the crate and reload it, or request the APC drops ammo so you can reload it.

I'm just unsure if you can have a kit that spawns needing ammo. It sounds hardcoded, but if not it would be a solution.
