Translator/Spy for BLUFOR on insurgency

Post by doop-de-doo »

Because insurgency maps have become a stone wall (and moat) against BLUFOR troops, I've become interested in the creation of a special unit that could slip into enemy lines looking for the caches. Even if a coalition soldier can use the enemies kit, the uniform (not head dress) remains coalition and is visible. This unit would be similar to the collaborator on the insurgent side; unarmed, perhaps with a grappling hook, binoculars, etc. It can't stand out too much from the rest, or it will defeat the purpose.

I'd call the unit one of three possibles, Translator, Collaborator, or Spy. :mr-t:

and lets put a guy with a flamethrower which does no damage to teammates
You are aware that his name wont show up on the screen then he'll get shot.
Its not very realistic and you can do it currently as well make a special squad with two or four guys with a humvee and ride around the map, your bound to come up on unprotected cashes and destroy them easily.
There is only one unforgivable lie That is the lie that says, This is the end, you are the conqueror, you have achieved it and now all that remains is to build walls higher and shelter behind them. Now, the lie says, the world is safe.? The Great Khan.

40k is deep like that.

It is supposed to look like an insurgent, not only have some of the abilities of the collaborator.

I hadn't realized it was a resuggestion. That list grows faster than I thought.

Just give the rifleman specialists a long beard.

Many operators in Iraq leave long beards to blend in with the locals as much as they can.

so this so cold collaborator will do what exactly?
walk around and spy?

I think it will be too overpowered he will look for cashes then once a insurgent spots him insurgent will try to kill him or arrest him? then al the collaborator has to do is run to the nearest squad and he is protected.

That would be the Special Forces soldiers (which is NOT some 1337 class, no, they are unconventional warfare warriors and blending with the locals is just one of the things of their mental arsenal - a great book about their training, showing that they are not what people think (ub3r-1337) is **** Couch's "Chosen Soldier" - very good book).

As kit geometries are drawn from far away now (I think) adding civilian's clothes to the riflemen specialist (along with a free hand) or some other special kit would be interesting indeed.

Also, picture this: (supposing they remove the name tag) an insurgent walks up to a civilian. He asks "Hey, where is the cache?" Answer "Right there" "OK". The insurgent keeps walking around. He finds another civilian... "Hey, where is the cache?" "I don't know, I'm looking for it too"... "Have you tried checking the map?" Pause... Civilian runs away while insurgent screams after him "SPY! SPY!!"

Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

If so,the Transelator/Spy shoud be unarmed. And show on Blufors map. And he should look like an insurgent.

What we have been discussing here is precisely that. The spy IS a blufor soldier looking like a civilian, without medic bags and field dressings, though. In real-life though, Special Forces soldiers are told NEVER EVER stay more than an arm's length from your gun. Meaning, even under civilian clothes, they carry a concealed pistol, for self-defense if necessary.

That's why they should REMOVE the name tags... Under my post I said it would only work if the name tags are away... Otherwise, yeah, it would be useless.

i agreeat elast on insurgency name tags, unless in your squad, should be removed. because tbh IRL your not going to know the name of everyone on the battlefield also it will make people more cautios

Sounds like a plan. However, name tags could actually save this Spec Forces guy from being shot by friendlies.

I don't think too many insurgents currently use name tags to identify each other unless the is target very far away. If this idea is implemented, they just might start to.

He may at least take a field dressing with him, can't he, maybe along with a knife or pistol?

How about instead of "Spy" and what not.. We just make like 2 people who are able to talk to all the squad leaders? We can have them be like... civilian informants. Like the ones who help the Marines out in Iraq, the pacifists that want to get rid of the insurgents.

They can be disguised as collaborators and they run around informing to the BluFor?

Well, IRL there is alot more people than 32 on each side.

32 people is like a classroom, you get to know their names by the end of 3rd week if you are lucky.

I think Insurgency is fine as it is, because BluFor already has all the firepower...etc... and with this addition, they can just get one or two guys to search for cache and everyone else party in(or around) the base until one cache is found and everyone rushes at one spot to pwn everything.

Project reality - People who do this IRL, special forces - DEVs dont wish to add special forces in game.
