PR crash

Post by Wolfbritish »

I have downloaded pr over and over again and the same always happens, in this order

Open opening it after download I get "default controls restored

Then a window that looks nice and pops up with a pr logo thing

Then the bf2 window that says bf2 and has the pic of a tank

Then please insert bf2 disk (I have it in and I insure you it works fine)

Then black after that boom desktop.

I went to see if normal bf2 works now and it does not.

This is the third time and I want help please

I have everything in the right folder and its all there.

Do you have the 1.5 patch? The same thing is happening to me, and I never knew the 1.5 patch existed before today. Downloading as we speak, and hopefully that clears it up. ;)

My old version was 1.41. Is yours the same?

You can find the 1.5 patch easily from any search engine (like Google). That's how I downloaded it.

I'm going to try tommorrow to see if the patch resolved the crashing issue. Let me know if you try it before then. Also, if it still crashes, try running PR in compatibility mode (try all of the modes if it keeps crashing).

Hopefully that makes it work. Have a good day.

Hello,

I'm not sure if you fixed this, but I have. First, you need to update to version 1.5, which has all of the booster packs, etc. Then, install PR to that folder. The crash was happening to me because I was still running ver. 1.41.

Should work now. ;)

Check out palerider's post above. Should allow you to download the update. :)

Edit: Actually, never mind. I'm getting a dead link. Try going to Google.com
and typing in "Battlefield 2 1.5 patch." That's how I found it.

palerider links work, tho in case they dont for you for whatever reason:

Patches and Fixes: Battlefield 2 v1.50 Patch - Demo Movie Patch Download Section - GamersHell.com

You need 1.41 first tho.

bf2 > 1.41 > 1.5 > pr .9 part1 > pr .9 part2

i had same problem when i reformatted, forgot 1.5 :S

Here are some things you can try:

Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.

Still CTD?

If you still have trouble run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files.

That dog still walking funny?

OK
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001

Hope it helps

Is this a little windows pop up box ? Or a box window in game ?

PR in no way affects your BF2 installation. If BF2 doesnt work then there you have your reason why PR does not work.

Have you tried installing the 1.5 patch, and then installing PR? Like I said, I had the exact same problem (with BF2 and PR both not working - same error message and everything). I made a fresh install of BF2 unmodded (and then updated it after installing it), and installed PR on there (only after updating it completely).

What you want to do is, delete that original folder entirely (the one with PR that isn't working). I think you can uninstall through the Windows Control Panel, and then "Programs" - depends on your operating system. Then, make a fresh install, and update to 1.5 (you might need 1.41 first, before this). Then, check to make sure the game works with the 1.5 patch (you should have all of the booster packs now).

After it works, install PR into that folder (click on it as the destination - the folder itself that contains all of the Battlefield 2 files - the very first folder within the EA Games folder). PR will install, and should work now.

Hopefully that helps. Let me know if it's still not working, or if I confused you. :-o

Summary:

1. Uninstall, remove BF2 folder
2. Install BF2
3. Update to 1.41
4. Update to 1.5
5. Make sure that BF2 is working
6. If it is, install PR
7. Should work now ;)

Use torrent download (uTorrent is a good client). Due to the nature of the technology, torrent downloads are guaranteed to be corruption free. It's usually faster too.
