A request to all Squad Leaders

Post by Dude388 »

Now maybe it's just my bad luck...or maybe some other factor, but either way it has to be said

Lately every SQ leader i have seems to barely use markers in combat. They will simply yell the approx location of a target and assume i can immediatly find him/her.

Now many SL's are good with this...but many more aren't. So please if your a SL, get in the habit of marking a target with a SQ marker, THEN attacking (now if the target is close range and about to attack...then feel free to attack first then mark).

I'm sorry but it just frustrating to have a SL yell a target and then start attacking, leaving me to waste time finding said target. For your benifit and your squads...please mark then attack. It doesn't take long (T, mouse up, click)

I usually call out my contacts and then put a marker right before after..
Rarely do i see my squad members returning fire.. without me having to tell them to do it.

If you are havintg a hard time setting your markers here is the correct SOP for marking.
Portable.Cougar wrote:When using the SL spotting feature in .9 there are some tricks.

Mark Target for range
Pull out radio
Right click
start Walking toward target
Set distance
Mark type of contact
stop walking

Same for CAS spotting

If you think the SL doesn't mark enough, you should go SL and mark your own targets.

Yes the attack, defend, move, build and observe markers. It's frustrating when your SL only uses them occasionally...when he/she should use them for every contact/engagment not just where we are headed.

I'd even go as far to say it is the most important assest in the entire game (excluding VOIP/Mumble)

Il tell you whats frustrating,

I spot a target. I tell my squad the location. Im very detailed, I say something along the lines of "enemy on rooftop at 215 degrees, to the right of the satellite dish etc" {this level of detail is very important and not something I think enough SLs do but thats for whole other thread} now, based on the info I gave my squadmates, and assuming they are with me and not spread out all over the map {which I wouldnt let happen anyway} then they shouldnt have a problem finding the target and returning fire. But theres always one guy, who says "duhhh can you put a marker on it please" Sorry buddy, but we are under fire. I cant whip out my map everytime im getting shot at and mark where the target is simply because you are too lazy to pay attention to the description I just gave. Its easier for me to do it over voip, as I can do it while shooting, and like I said before with enough detail its not hard at all to see where im talking about.

The first thing I do is put a marker, wherever I look (is that something? put observer marker and then ask).

It's probably the new SLs...
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

Personally, like when they call out more instead of just putting markers on everything.
I don't think IRL they can put markers on things, but then again, IRL, they can point.

No squad members should be firing without your go, regardless of whether you are getting shot at or not. Avoidance is the best form of defense.

The best thing to do when eliminating an enemy without serious involvement is to have everybody prone, and fire one shot after 5 seconds of sitting there. This ensures that there are 6 accurate shots on the enemy, ensuring that they go down.

@OP, the simplest solution is often the best. Have you bothered to ask him to place them instead of just complaining about him NOT doing placing them?

Its simply easier to put a marker man, many people are much more visual oriented.
and secondly, you don't have to open your map as a previous poster stated, you can simply hold T and move your mouse up to click attack mark. That easy.

When I'm playing SL, i usually give a short but exact description of a taget's position once i spot one, while at the same time I'm setting a marker for my squad on it and then getting out the radio and marking the spot for the rest of the team if I think it makes sense .
Especially with enemys in buildings its the best way, because you can set a marker on the occupied house to draw your SM attention to it and then give the concrete location, like: "second floor, the first window on the left - enemy LAT"

people just need to practice, I can get a marker down in less than 5 seconds now as long as I don't lag (makes me do that crazy 'radio off' 'radio on' 'radio off' movement until I resych :D

Sure, but you don't wanna tell every squad member when and where to shoot all the time. You wouldn't have time for anything else. This is why we have control measures.
Update your SMs on the ROE regularely.

Ah contraire,

AR, only shoot on groups of infantry.

People carrying ACOGs, fire only on my mark.

Those with irons/reddots only fire when dangers is imminent.

I can say all that in under 6 seconds, and considering I say the ROE before the combat starts I can lengthen it with more details. All orders should be followed up with 'Are there any questions' anyway to ensure that there are no mistakes and those making them can be diciplined with the one strike then kicked system.

Anyway, I never have 'hot fire' moments unless there is a squadsworth of enemies within 50m. All contacts should be handled as such:

1. Have everybody prone
2. Aim at a single target
3. Say the following 'On my mark fire one single shot at [target], 5 4 3 2 1 fire'
4. When the target is down firmly say 'target down hold fire'
5. Repeat for each target, obviously firing at the highest priority ones first (leadership of the squad (SL), followed by the AR then grunts and finally the medic)

I can tell you now that that system does NOT ever fail, at least the 100s of times I've used it it hasn't, and alot of people can tell you that it does as well.

Like I said you shouldn't be having to tell them, anyone who does not comply with orders or previously-informed ROE's should be kicked.

Regardless I somehow make time for it incase the squad is full of dropkicks, micromanagement is key.

I try to put markers when I can, but sometimes I have no idea where the enemy are located, but will know a direction(due to surround sound). So I generally yell a direction before and set a marker later when I get the chance.. Also it depends on how long the enemy lasts and if your surrounded :P . But yes SL's should if they can place markers, but if the squad is doing what its meant to and are close to the SL, normally a direction is good enough.

Don't forget to use the commo rose, I can mark something I see in about a second with that.

I usually only use the observe marker. It isn't very hard to put a marker when you are shooting. When you take a knee and your sights lined up with the enemy, the second or two it takes for deviation to settle is ample time to quickly drop a marker.

even worse is that most squadleaders seem content to fight with 1 of 2 pals and start locking their squads, or keep them open but kick you relentlessly
if I come new to a server, most of the time my initial biggest concern is if I can find a squad
