After looking through the add/remove window of my XP computer, I found old versions of PR that go back to v75 and through v909. Some of these are large files.
Is it safe to remove and why does not the new install remove the older installed programs?

Same question.
Can I just have the latest version? 0909?
I'm wary of removing the other versions in case it all collapses.
I go back to 0856

Re: Old Versions of PR on HD
pr.9 probably only detects the version right before it (.856) and removes it - you should remove the old pr before you install a new full version of pr (i.e. when there is no update/patch file)
when you use uninstall now it is possible that the wizard will remove new versions of files that got installed by the old versions - that is why its possible that pr.9 will not work anymore when you uninstall the old versions
however it is actually quite safe to uninstall .9, then the older versions or just delete the pr folder "Battlefield 2/mods/pr" and reinstall pr.9 your config files are stored in "My Documents/Battlefield 2" so nothing bad should happen (dont uninstall bf2 though)
you will not need to install .856 prior to .9 installation

Got a PROBLEM? Check this: PR:BF2 Installation Guide

Re: Old Versions of PR on HD
The files in the add/remove are left behind if you don't use proper method to uninstall old versions before instaling new. They should not be doing any harm there. The size they show is not actual space they are taking from your computer but rather size the program told them its taking when it was installed. DO NOT uninstall them unless you want to install PR again, the old uninstalls are still connected to the PR folder so it will uninstall any version you have.
EDIT: If you want them to go away you need to remove them manually from registery.
Start -> Run -> Regedit
Method 1.
goto Edit -> Find... and put "Project Reality" then find. After few finds it should show you position of the uninstalls, they have their own folders called something like "Project Reality 0.856 core" and "Project Reality 0.856 levels", just delete the folders completly and they should be gone from the "add/remove"
Method 2.
Go directly to folders, on win7 they were at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Method 3.
Rename the PR folder to something else, uninstall them and then rename the PR folder back. :F

Re: Old Versions of PR on HD
I deleted all the older versions of PR to squeeze in Napoleon Total War and now the PR icon doesn't work.
So if I understand what I read above I now need to delete and reinstall PR to get my icon to work ?
Is there any other way of doing this ?
When I click the icon is says " looking for PR.exe" and gives me the option to browse but I don't know what to browse for.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can delete the installler files of the old versions, but do not try to uninstall them via Add/Remove Programs (XP) or Programs and Features (Vista & up).
