Hey, am I somewhere wrote that PR is getting worse? He becomes the other. So I ask: in what direction it is moving?

I sometimes wish there were two versions of PR... one like 0.4 or even 0.3 and one like 0.9.

An analogy for me is:

Early version were like football; fast paced, fun & action packed.

Recent versions are like golf; slow, challenging, often frustrating but rewarding.

I've often wondered about a PR hardcore mode, the hardcore being that we have now and softcore being a version with easier to deal with features I guess, but that would split the community in two...so I dunno

It could only improve things tbh...

People would play what they like best and you would end up with a better selection of teammates rather than each doing what they like best.

Variation = win.

I remember several quoes of "all we care about is having at least one 64 full server to play on" or similar, and there is more then enough for 2 divisions.

But a "softcore" version wouldn't be the way the DEVs want PR played. same reason they have server licence agreements.

Not really, I dont think you can even compare CoD4 to vbf2 at all anyhow.

My personal favourite times in PR were in (I think .25?) at least when it was pretty much a few new sounds, zoom on apcs/new rounds etc on all the vanilla maps. It was insanely fun.

Call me a 'vanilla noob' all you want, it was still more fun and ultimately felt more natural on the engine to me.

In CoD very lovely model of the motion character, system to overcome obstacles and barriers, animations. That's all I liked it there. But, if I may, let us not discuss here CoD.

a softcore server would still have to obey the server license, it would just offer a new option.

The DEVs can still play PR the way they want, but the question really is, would players like teh DEVs want to be trying to play the hardcore version with some players treating it like softcore?
I'm not saying its the best idea, but it is an option.

This.

Its like havin a toy car in 1/24 scale ant another one in 1/8 scale... I could not play with cars that varied in size :D

Its either both big, or both small, or just take the big or the small one :D

oh of course, but its an example of the devs trying to prevent splits in the community (ie servers with low respawns or rps back to old versions etc)

No.

I stopped playing Bf2v when 0.3 was released.. never went back. Got COD4 free with my gfx card and hated it.

0.3/0.4 was nothing like vanilla, or at least it removed a lot of what i didn't like about vanilla.

So no.. imo it would be nothing like BF2v. (but yes its closer than 0.9 is)

I just don't often have the time available that is needed to enjoy PR these days.. and a lite version would be nice to fill that void.

Maybe skirmish mode is the answer..

Andromeda I 've played with you on RT?

I am a Mumble man and I like very much the way PR is in 0.9. I do however see his point and I do think there is a sizeable chunk of (ex)players that think alike.
When I have a good round in 0.9 it is really very very good (way more than ever before IN MY CASE) using teamwide tactics and inter squad comms and co-ordination.
When it is bad (too lazy to SL find a SL that is not so team orientated) it is very bad.
I admire the apparent commercial refusal of who ever is responsible for that side also I am happy to note that the direction of PR does seem to become more niche as each patch/update/version comes out.

I do not have much time, barely for one round of an evening but I'd rather have one memorable battle than four so so ones.

I would agree that in 0.9 your gaming experience is more determined by the rest of your team than before.
I do not agree with needing to have a clan to fully enjoy PR, however it may be worthwhile making a server 'home' to get to know the regulars, then you have the advantages of a clan without being in one.

Skirmish mode is great but it's not that pub friendly. It's best played in organised clans not with total strangers.

Ive asked quite a few times whether we could have a softcore mode and in my opinion it would be the right way to go. It doesnt mean just removing all the things that make PR different to BF2 it would just mean making the game more fast paced like it was before this release. A couple of other things could be changed so its not just 0.9 without rallys but i dont think it would go against what the devs want. We're not saying 15 second respawns and spawning on squad leaders, but i think rally points would be a good thing and maybe allowing people to play on smaller maps.

I found a nice mix. I bought Bad Company 2. So when i want the run-n-gun Rambo style I can load up BC2. When I want a long challenging quest. I'll load up PR.

I find PR more rewarding after a long fight, but the rounds last sooooo long now.

I do not allude to the return or the introduction of fast-crazy-rush style of play. I like the slow and measured pace of the game. But I seem to be more relevant changes that make the game command and more understandable. For example, if we talk about a new RP system, the 0.9 version of this system is complicated and unrealistic. Better not to see RP in the game than to see them in the form as they are now.

Another possibility short of making an entire "softcore" version would be to reintroduce a smaller map or two like the old "Alley". The 16 player sized maps are ok, but it would be nice to have a small map like that which isn't simply a tiny section of a larger map. The main reason I like this sort of idea is that I just haven't been able to devote the 3 straight hours it requires to play most PR rounds lately. I think that a smaller map with a low ticket count could make for shorter rounds while still encouraging the PR game play we love.
