in vista, your pagefile should stay the same size as your amount of RAM, in the 32 bit version there is a bit diffrence, 32 bit programs can only adress up to 2 GB, if you have a bigger pagefile than 2 GB, there might be crashes (not that i say im sure you will experience problems, but i had lots of trouble with programs that actually tried to nom nom nom more than 2 GB of my pagefile. PS: this was 3-4 years ago, things might have changed now.

I've heard it is also good to set the min and max size the same (to match your RAM or more) so that it reserves a specific part of the disk and doesn't have to allocate on the fly, which could cause some rubber banding if you have low RAM.

Hmm, I've got 3 Gb, but the Recommended says to allocate 4606 Mb... ??
What if you set it to System managed size?

I know 3 Gb should be enough, but I'm running on low gfx again so I'm keen to try.

if you set it to system managed size, windows will always change the pagefile size for whats most suiting, this means your hard drive will work more than it really has to, and may slow down your gaming experience. a fixed size is always better, since windows and the hard drive wont have to change the page file size all the time, and re allocate temporarly saved data.

Pherhaps i have a good advice: I use IObit smartdefrag to defragment my hard drives every two weeks, there is an option in this program thats named "deep optimize", this even my computer a lot faster even tho i have RAID5. My C:\ partition takes like 16 hours to defrag if i have forgotten to defrag the last couple of months :P

PS: if its possible, use windows or whatever OS you have, on its own hard drive, not partitioned with D:\ and such, this makes the hard drive even work more then it has to when playing games, expecialy if you have installed BF2/PR on partition d:\

if someone uses laptops from for example DELL, there is an option in the BIOS that lets the hard drive work "faster" than the standard settings, some other models from other brands may also have this option. Standard option in DELL laptops is set to silent mode, the hard drive works slower, but more quiet. Set it to performance and your pc will work faster. I don't know if this may be the case with stationary computers. With all the computers i have been laying my grubby hands on the past years, i only have seen "hard drive silent mode" on DELL laptops. Even those who are made for gaming.

The very BEST advice for pc gamers with older pc's, is that the more stuff you store on your computer (not music, movies etc), but programs installed, the slower your rig will work. windows xp/vista,7. an IM program, defrag program, antivirus and your games would "give the best" performance.

there is also a tool in every windows version that allows you to decide what programs that are allowed to boot up with windows.

Open "run" in the start menu and type MSCONFIG. Open "boot" and see what kind of programs that always stay in the background. Same with "services, tho be careful what you unmark here. this might f**k up your windows boot/ background services that you need. mark the button thats named "hide windows services" and then see what to remove from the list. If not sure, check google or ask in this thread if you can't find any information.

Pease out. Going to bed.
