I'm just hoping for realistic armour/vehicle damage properties and realistic weapons handling/ ballistics. If its PR 1 with these included I will be a happy camper/purchaser.
Oh and of course insurgency game mode.

I think his Doctorate was in research with something to do with his Geomip streaming terrain. He will make his PhD public once SIGGRAPH have had their fun with it.Tofurkeymeister wrote:Eric Lengyel, the creator of the C4 Engine, is undeniably beast. He writes all sorts of books on coding, and recently has earned his PHD (so its Doctor Lengyel now).
He also developed a rendering technology for the PS3.
Basically he achieves what he does by being superhuman ... and probably lives on Ginko berries or something ...
Here is a bit about him ....
Eric Lengyel
He is no slacker ... put it that way.
All sound in the game is directional (apart from ambient sound), and although the engine does not support surround yet, it will do, and it includes doppler effects and the calculations based upon the speed of sound. Will we get directional VoIP feature? I also preemptively suggest single channel speech, but multichannel radio.

Well that just sounds rather amazing to be honest. We have a very bright future ahead as gamers me thinks.

Re: The PR team is going to use the C4 Engine
To me, I find animations (this includes the interface and physics and how character models move), graphics, and sound the pinnacle of gameplay. It first has to present to me with a realistic environment instead of a poorly graphically design virtual world. Once the graphics have passed my review, community gameplay (teamwork) is second. Luckily BF2 (PR) graphics are still decent now. It sucks though that PR2 won't be on the Frostbite engine of BC2. Then it would truly be the best thing ever.
EDIT: Yeah, why can't PR2 just be a modded version of BC2?
I would like to keep a game like PR on its feet updated as much as possible with the other games. It would bring in a bigger audience and we can actually present to them a tactical/teamwork based game all about realism. What I would like to see in the future is a lot of realistic features that will hinder your movement personally if you get shot (example, get shot in the arm, less control over aim. Shot in the leg, unable to run. Etc) and also combat stress (BC2 demostrates half of this through their deafening effect from explosions but no visual disorientation like the PR supression effect. I'm pretty sure that a few of us in the PR community will hit the rich social class and hopefully fund a ambitious project for reality
!
Just like James Cameron for Avatar, his idea began in the 90's and believed that technology was not advance enough to create Avatar. I been waiting a long time for a realistic game until I found PR; it gave me hope. Just keep up the good work you guys. We'll all end up in a good place eventually.

I'm not questioning if the C4 engine is better for PR2 or not. I'm expressing my way of critique for a product.Th3Exiled wrote:Because maybe C4 engine would work better for PR 2? You can't compare things when you have limited knowledge on 1 and only assumptions on the other.

I refer you to this place, sir: Project Reality : Battlefield 2 Mod - Project Reality 2rushn wrote:PHD in awesomeness he rages every day
anyway did they start working on C4 yet or are they still waiting for it to be done/finished/upgraded?
Where I think you went wrong is by blanketly saying that graphics in C4 were poor and obviously a WIP; whereas the engine's graphical side is actually very well developed and already capable of very amazing output indeed... what you should have said (based on what you just posted) is that the C4 demo has poor graphics - which it does, and could badly do with being updated as others have pointed out.Koroush47 wrote:All I said was "The graphics are WIP" and everybody starts writing essays about how I'm uninformed and I'm ignorant?
Seriously, what are you guys on? How is saying that the graphics is a work in progress and that they will look better later criticizing* ANYBODY?
Saying that "C4 currently has poor graphics" and "the demo doesn't look very nice" are too different things - you said the former but meant the latter.
Twisted Helix's point is that even despite the latter, the former is not true and incredibly high-quality stuff can already be shown in C4.

I think this is a great thread, even though the premise for it might not be. I, at least, have enjoyed all the info about PR2 and the C4 engine thats been in this thread.ElPablo99522 wrote:Didn't I say I agree with you? I have no idea how engines work okay this is all from a visual standpoint
Alright thanks for those pictures and stuff I kind of feel stupid for making this thread, but I made this thread concerned from what I've seen from other people that's all.

As the information on that page clearly states: The Torque engine will not be used, since they found C4 to suit their needs better.rushn wrote:I have been refereed there countless of times and it doesn't not help sir

Btw, does anyone know what language the C4 engine is written in?

Re: The PR team is going to use the C4 Engine
The obvious reason to not using another proprietary game engine is closed source code. A lot of suggestions that might have made PR a much better simulation has been restricted due to EA's legalities.AurianTitan wrote: EDIT: Yeah, why can't PR2 just be a modded version of BC2?
Using C4 as a licensee gives the DEVs an open environment which I'm sure we'll all be benefited by; especially when it comes to expanding and modifying a game that gets as much continued support and development as PR.
Think of the ability to take a service such as Mumble and embed a similar idea into the game as a natural part of it. No opening third-party applications as supplements to a services we need but cannot see implemented into the game because of closed source code.

Another obvious reason is DICE's decision to go with only 32 players pr. server.

Eh? The very first answer in the FAQ states "As of June 6 2009, we were in pre-production".rushn wrote:I have been refereed there countless of times and it doesn't not help sir

Question two goes on to be answered by: "...work at this early stage centres around proof-of-concept and design planning..."
So yes, we're working in C4 at this moment in time.
