After recently installing bf2 again and getting project reality 0.9. Bf2 runs with no problems, but when running project reality and trying to either start a single player game or join an online one, when the game finishes loading it just crashes back to the desktop. I have played earlier versions of project reality on this same machine, with no problems, but that was before installing windows 7. I was previously running windows xp.
Any advice or suggestions that could remedy this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Crash to Desktop
did you install pr and bf2 correctly?
-> bf2, bf2 1.41 patch, bf2 1.5 patch, pr part 1, pr part 2
try running pr in windowed mode: append "+fullscreen 0" to the target line of your pr shortcut
this might give you an error message on ctd which you can later on google/post here

Re: Crash to Desktop
I have also recently upgraded to windows 7 and I have the same issue, whenever I go to join any online game I crash to desktop immediatley after clicking the server. I ran PR in a window and there was no error message or explanation after the ctd.
My specs:

I'm going to try a reinstall of bf2 incase there were any corrupt files when transfering over from XP.

Re: Crash to Desktop
Compatibility mode to xp and run as admin not set in desktop shortcut on Vista PCs
Right click shortcut
choose 'properties' from bottom of list
Click on the Compatibility 'tab'(along the top of the window)
Check 'run as admin' box, select WINDOWS XP(service pack 2
With W7 you need to run BF2 and PR as admin, but I believe you don't need to set compatibility to XP.
After you set Admin run:
battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files
Next:
Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache
Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.
Should run fine now. You will get a notice your video is 'optimizing'
after you join a new server and load a new map.
( video card is filling its ram 'cache') this is normal.
Still CTD?
OK
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder.
Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back
is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001
Good luck

Re: Crash to Desktop
The reinstall worked, I trashed every trace of bf2 and installed everything from the ground up, seems to be working fine. If any problems persist i'll try that one out, cheers for the reply

Re: Crash to Desktop
I think it may be an issue with the fact windows 7 runs 64 bit. When I was reinstalling, the BF2 installation warned me that BF2 hasn't been tested on 64bit. I also noticed that when trying to open the BF2 patches and both PR insallation files I would get no response or have to wait a lengthy time to open which is a problem some people have had. The only thing I have an issue with now is the fps in game... what has happened?
I could run this no problem maxed out on the previous version, I have lowered my settings and it isn't much better, it's a shame, PR is pretty maxed out.

Re: Crash to Desktop
I just installed Windows 7 and my fix was just running the program as admin.
