Installing - Root directory problem

Hi,

I'm trying to install PR0.9 full and I'm getting the error:

This is not the BF2 root directory
BF2 must be installed first

However, I've already navigated to the BF2 folder in the installer.

Suggestions (other than starting from scratch)?

Normally you don't have to manually select PR install folder, the installer will figure it out by itself. So trying that first would be worth trying I think.

Generally it's better to install PR only after you've started BF2 at least once and created/recovered your profile(s). That way all the required directories and files are in the places PR installer & launcher expect them to be.

You need to install to wherever bf2.exe is.

Example:
If bf2.exe exists in
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\bf2.exe"
you install to
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2"

If BF2 was installed correctly, and registry or file changes related to BF2 haven't occurred, then the installer should automatically detect the install directory, and you don't need to manually select it.

The problem was, for some reason my .exe was named 'Battlefield 2.exe', but the installer was obviously looking for a 'bf2.exe'. After I renamed it, installed no problems!

I am glad you figured it out. I don't even dare thinking of what punkbuster errors you might have gotten or will be getting trying to play online with that .exe.
That is quite unusual. For future trouble shootings it would be interresting to know which distribution you are using. (Steam/DVD/EADM, only BF2 or as a set with addons)

DVD, and I have been playing BF2 for a while now with no PB errors. I've renamed the .exe anyway, so all should hopefully be good now.
