Forgot my most important suggestion for insurgency.
Instead of getting intel from killing insurgents constantly.
This probably won't happen in PR Bf2 but maybe it will make it to ArmA 2 PR.
For Intel there should be Documents, Contacts(I.e. civi's that you actually talk to and interact with), etc around the map.
Documents
Laptops
Contacts
Other kinds of intel that could either be around the map in various places or be moved. For example instead of for every insurgent you kill and get intel. Maybe he could be moving around with some intelligence on him. Such as a squad leader.
VIPs would also be an interesting idea or make a new game type if needed.
Just my new spin on how insurgency should be. Some real intel could just revamp the whole system and make it more interesting rather then same old oh theres a guy lets shoot him for points.

I think the BF2 engine limits almost all this.
And if it's a suggestion for ARMA 2. I think you should wait until the suggestion forums for ARMA 2 is open.

We already have them. Don't expect to get any useful info thoughSGT.Ice wrote:I.e. civi's that you actually talk to and interact with

this is a multiplayer first person shooter game at the end. I think those are just not needed extra details which will just slow down the game. In My last Lashkar Valley round we have to wait 25-30 minutes until BLUFOR opens a cache.

The game already takes about 2 hours per match.

What is wrong with that?
If you don't like it, there's always the much shorter rounds in Vanilla..

As Lemon stated, BF2 enginge probably limits all of that( can't say for sure as I am no a Dev), and as for an ArmA 2 suggestion, you should wait until the suggestion forum is opened.
But my personal oppinion on that... it is not a very good suggestion, as, probably no one will be willing to take the risk of carring intel on him, well... maybe if it's strapped to him like explosive on an kamikaze, and, searching for intel on the map is the same thing as searching for the actual cache.

Re: Forgot my most important suggestion for insurgency.
What makes a VIP get killed? Imprudency. If you just hide in a hole in Korengal, you'll never be found.
Also, laptops and files could be an interesting addon, but not the main way of getting intel, maybe just like a bonus. Ex. people wouldn't spawn on a laptop to defend it, nor tell anyone about it. It's pure luck if a BLUFOR guy finds it (perhaps with a resistance of 1 or 2 insurgents/talibans). See what I mean? It would be a nice intel boost, but not gameplay-wise friendly.
IF you wanted to show the laptops positions, it would just be a secondary way of finding caches. It could work, but only if you need, for example, 3 pieces of intel for each cache, 2 or 3 caches total per round.

Yes, well, ho wants to play a game where you have to stay "AFK" in a hole/hidden possition for 2 hours?.goguapsy wrote:What makes a VIP get killed? Imprudency. If you just hide in a hole in Korengal, you'll never be found.

As I don't see insurgents operating on laptops, I would go for one of those briefcases on the commanders desk, with files in it. I wouldn't go for the resistance, as it gives away the possition. But, as the insurgecy game is pretty balanced righ now, you need to add something for the insurgents too, as the game would probably shift in favour for the BLUFOR.

Re: Forgot my most important suggestion for insurgency.
interesting...
what you 'could' do is make a new kit that has documents, and the geometry would be something like the map model thats already ingame, when you pick it up it gives you X intel points, then you just put it back down and carry on, though I can't remember when we had those kit intel benefits in the old days did it only count once per kit found or did it become a intel generator?
These would be mapper placed in strategic locations I guess, could even be a kind of secondary objective
Sounds doable and fun to me.
I wouldn't want to return to teh old 'kit = intel' system as it was a bit of a pain to constantly pick up enemy kits.

That, or you could use the commander station for inspiration. And by that I mean, there is a briefcase(max 1-2, very well hidden), that acts like a vehicle. When a BLUFOR soldier "enters" it with E(default) key, a map would be displayed which has a cache possition marked on it. Of course, the marker would be visible only on the briefcase map, and not on the main map. And I think it would be only fair that the insurgents would be able to destroy the briefcase(of course, in this case, nobody knows the possition of the briefcase's).[R-CON]Rudd wrote:interesting...

A countermeasure to this for the insurgents, would be a kit that lays down a fake briefcase, which gives "bad intel"(fake cache possition), thus giving the insurgents the chance to bleed out the BLUFOR's tickets by ambushing that possition.
But then again, its probably not doable in BF2

Re: Forgot my most important suggestion for insurgency.
I just know that this VIP thing had been suggested before, and it was deemed unnecessary because you can do that. Sure it's boring. But you are winning right?iAllex wrote:Yes, well, ho wants to play a game where you have to stay "AFK" in a hole/hidden possition for 2 hours?.

Perhaps if the mission was to simply kill the VIP (you get X intel, last known position of VIP is revealed). You win if you do that. (Note: Different from xTract game mode. This would be played in BLUFORvsTaliban I think would work best).
However I do like the briefcase idea, but I believe it would only work if it was a secondary way of getting intel. What I mean is, you would have to luckily run into a briefcase. If you were to get approximate locations from briefcases, it would be the same as cache-hunting. But without any RPGs flying around it.

I didn't notice that the OP was suggesting an alternative way to get intel that replaces the one we have. My briefcase ideea is the secondary way of getting intel, I do not want to replace the curent sistem of collecting intel(killing insurgents) that we have.goguapsy wrote:However I do like the briefcase idea, but I believe it would only work if it was a secondary way of getting intel. It would be cool just put random documents in random buldings and on the map it dosent show it on the map you like just randomly find it lying around bulidings

I agree.
BTW, what's OP?
Yeah, this would be nice, but if they kept intel collecting by killing insurgents. IRL I don't think that would be this way. OP=original post (reffers to the ideea in which the thread was made)
Yes myles, but I don't think hardcoded BF2 engine allows you the action of "picking up", beside kits. That means, if the documents arn't kits, they can't be picked up. And if they where kits, how would they be used? please be a little more specific on that ideea. And let's not forget, that insurgency is pretty balanced now, adding something for BLUFOR, especially something that speed up cach finding just upsets that balance.

Couple kits laying around in the city... When a guy finds it he has to carry like some kinda briefcase and he cannot shoot. When he does... The insurgents will be notified of the kits location and so will the BluFor..[R-CON]Rudd wrote:interesting...

Then they would have to do some crazy extraction mission to get the kit back to the base. It would be a great spin on the rather lame gameplay insurgency offers.

And yes, myles, gameplay-wise I believe they should keep both ways.
BTW thank you iAllex for the OP definition.
I like the way this is going towards...

Re: Forgot my most important suggestion for insurgency.
I can see people grabbing a kit and not knowing what to do with it getting shot by insurgents or picking up a kit right in front of insurgents plus dont kits last for 5 mins
