I've been playing PR for a year now, and I have never had this problem before. When I start PR, the small PR screen pops up and it appears in the applications and processes areas of the task manager. The application goes away in about 2-3 minutes, but it still appears in the processes area. Nothing happens then for about 5 minutes, and then the game loads.
I tried starting BF2 to see if it was a problem on that end and BF 2 loaded instantly. I then tried to run PR in compatibility mode, only to have it not start at all. I then thought that maybe some files were corrupted so I uninstalled and reinstalled PR with no effect.
This started maybe 3 days ago out of the blue. Nothing has changed on my computer.
Help would be appreciated.

Re: PR takes a very long time to start
You should start pr as admin.
Either use BF2Cleaner or delete the whole "My Documents\Battlefield 2" folder. This will get rid of corrupted settings files (if using second method bf2 will reset everything to default).

I do run it as an administrator, and I have used the BF2 cleaner. Neither helped.

Re: PR takes a very long time to start
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder.
Once you have a backup, delete the original from your documents folder.
Set disk-check to run on your system drive next reboot. ( if PR is on a different drive check it as well)
Reboot, defrag drive/s after disk-check finishes.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
(a new default folder is created).
Link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001
Good luck hope it helps
