Help with aerial combat: How?

Post by Hunt3r »

The problem is that I've never been able to really practice dogfights well in PR, usually because co-op servers are just where you spam missiles to get a kill, and no one actually uses the PR jets.

So how do you fight?

Usually (for me anyways,) it just comes down to how fast you are and skill.
I prefer the MiG over the F-16 because of the AA-12s. I just find them to be really good in a dogfight, due to the ability to really F*&% over the other guy :D . Now to something actually post related-

(General)
1.When in a dogfight, try to get in close, and DONT lose track of the target for a seconds. Use the control button to look around and keep an eye on him. If you are close enough, dont forget about that really big gun sitting under your feet. Hit left click when the reticle is over your target, and watch the fireworks.

(Manouevering)
2.Here is a big part to the dogfight. Outflying your opponent (Usually the class 3 noob)
Nice, big fancy turns can come in handy when trying to kill your target. If your locked, try some crazy manouveres (i.e. twists, turns, barrel rolls) and do your best to either get behind him, or get away from him. Usually, my pinky finger is usually glued to the shift button when doing so.

(Landing)
3. Im going over this cause i can.
Rule 1: DONT. FUCKING. CRASH.

And there is a quick and basic guide to dogfighting, with a little sarcasm mixed in.
If your a nub and still need practice, find a traning server with a few people in it and fly around a bit, get a feel for it. Also, if you want to do CAS support, make sure your the first squad up. Get the squad ready etc. and hit enter the second your see 1:30.

That is all.
Your welcome Hunter.

Don't use fighters for hunting jets whitout good spottings ;) Anything whit JDAM's only use them to stay extremely high and only go down for landings

Get up high, fly around the map in a circle avoiding the centre, keep looking for the other jet and most of the time you see him first, you win.

Thats pretty much it. If you're the only in front and hes behind you, you might as well just bail out then and there. PR Flying =/= Maneuvering.

They need to take out the vBF2 coded jets on training maps. This causes a bias for people to use them for practice when those jets aren't even used in deployment. They fly VERY different from the PR jets. The fact that they are even on the training server pretty much discourages any real training for jet fighting.

Those are for the bots to fly. If you gave them a PR style coded jet, then they'd crash on takeoff.

That's why bots shouldn't be given jets...
It's already annoying even to take off on USA side on Kashan... not to mention landing.
Nuff whining as I things that stuff is already WIP.

About dodgefighs or whatever you may call it: because who first saw an enemy aircraft usually wins: use 6,7,8 look keys (oh, and the reverse camera).

Not a very helpful rule, in my opinion, rather show us how to prevent crashing.

If your a fighter, stay on the BVR missile (2). Fly on the outside borders of the map weaving in and out around 1500 altitude. Make sure you check your real every once in a while. When you see a target, get within range and lock on to with with your aim9. i find it having better maneuverability.

I killed a Frog yesterday with an AIM-9 that was above my cockpit... The lock on of that missile is amazing.

Then I aslo exchanged two head on missiles with a MiG yesterday...vone toawrds me and one towards him. The lucky sod got me but he was only damaged enough to land XD... I was sooo sad.

Do the AA-12 have a bigger blast that the 9 or is it luck?

There's a very good aircraft manual up somewhere on the forums (or at least there used to be one, but it's been a long time since I bumped in to it). Search it ;)
Oh and there's some info on landing in the basic PR manual as well.

Basically it's lots and lots of training before you're able to land smoothly, but that's what PR is all about, isn't it? Training and perfection before you can actually use an asset properly ;)

Greetings,

EDIT:
As a matter of fact, Spearhead just put up this new instruction video on lift-off and landing!

Hehe, i practised a long time with the A10 and the Su-25 on a Training server.
Then one evening I decided to try to fly on a public server, so i hopped into the A10 and I was pretty good... so from then i never again played on a training server, I only practised all this (even dogfight with the fighters) on filled publics from then on, and i learned from it that you got to spam your flares and use your afterburner good to escape your enemy. If you sit in the A10 or Su-25 you need your fighter pilot to help you if the enemy fighter is chasing you.

Spam flares, use your afterburner and try to escape
or call in your fighter pilot
If you loose time dropping flares (need to be dropped within 0,5 seconds after hearing the lock) you're already dead.

Lets put it this way, there is no such thing as dogfighting in PR. There is absolutely NOTHING you can do to get me off your *** once im on it, and vice versa. Fly toward friendly AA and spam a flare every second to avoid getting locked on.

But hell, even then, you get shot down somehow without being locked on by the mig. Big whoop there.... :( Iv stopped flying. I have better luck in taking out enemy air with a10 and frogfoot due to its greater turn radius.

Using guns?

When I fly i usually fly in bomb mode or radar off mode. Since I can sneak up on enemy jets. As with missile they would know I'm coming and start doing evasive manuevors and dropping flairs.
So I just sneak up and take them out with a burst of the gun.
I only use the missiles when they know I'm there and start evading me or for on coming targets.

Your thoughts?

Actually a lot of people are wrong for saying that you can't run from the enemy, What you can do is fly over enemy AAs, and the best thing to do is to put your throttle to idle and start dropping flares and doing manuevers!
Soon the enemy will find him self infront of you, Then you can get your throttle back to 100% with afterburner and F**k the s**t out of him!
once on Kashan, I lasted for 3:30 hours (Whole round) and I had 57 kills and 0 deaths, In this process I shot down about 4 enemy Migs if not more! never to mention the enemy frogs, BTW, in that same round an Enemy frogfot almost shot me down!
That plane is so devastating!
