MEC Eurocopter

Post by Riflewizard »

Hey, i'd just like to chime in on the eurocopter, i think it is a bit unbalanced/underpowered.

1. The instrument panel obstructs a large amount of your view compared to the Littlebird
2. It lacks firepower as it did before, even more now that the littlebird has rockets which make it MUCH more deadly

Thats all

Here is the EC635 cockpit

It is larger than the little bird's cockpit, the PR version is pretty accurate. (I think PR uses MH-6?)

Iirc the cannons are 20mm, so they are severely underpowered.

But none of the scout helis have the right ROF really.

I'm im not mistaken, they're modeled after .50 caliber guns that can be mounted on German Eurocopter Tigers.

Edit: UH Tigers to be exact can have mounted 12.7 pods if needed.

The bigger problem in my opinion is they aren't zeroed. They just shoot out to infinity in a perralle path realisticly they would be zeroed @ 150m to 250m.

If the Eurocopter has 20mm shells, let's up the damage and fire rate :D

Agreed, i fired like half my rounds on 3 runs just to kill a enemy sniper i found on Kashan, and most of them where so close to him, on the first run he was literaly between where the 2 rounds land.

Yeah, I was using the EC635 the other day and it really is hard to kill infantry as the guns have little or no splash damage.

They need a decent splash, like that of the Cobra which IIRC also has a 20 mm gun. The zeroing isn't such an issue but would be nice.

Nope, those aren't the GIAT 20mm pods.

POD NC 621

They look to be FN HMP pods; 12.7mm/.50 cal.

OK, well in that case the rate of fire needs to be upped because they're the high-RoF M3P .50 cal!

think he's right the rate must be upped but there is also a rocket version

possible weapons for the EC635

2 ×GIAT NC621 20-mm
2 × FN-Herstal HMP-400 12,7-mm
2 × FN-Herstal FZ321 12 x 70-mm rockets

Well, actual ROF of each cannon in game = 450 rpm.

Alright, so to be realistic they need to be 1025 rpm. What's the closest we can get to that ingame? (I'm aware the BF2 engine will only allow certain fire rates)

Alternatively, changing the pods to the GIAT ones would be cool, asymetric balance to the minigun LB.

EC635 - low RoF, high damage, good splash
MH-6 - high RoF, fairly high damage, small splash

Stu.

EDIT: Hang on a sec, do we even know that the EC635 can/does mount the GIAT cannons?

EDIT2: Duh, yes we do, Eddie said so. Plus they're listed as a weapon option on Wikipedia.

Pretty sure that it now has hydras, i've seen it destroy firebases on Kashan with them.

I would love to see them fitted with a round that has more firepower or if it is truely a .50 cal round remove the explosion effect that is showed when the round blows up. I don't mean to side track things either but would it be possible for the 0.50 cals on choppers to do splash damage like the US LB does or remove its splash to make them either balanced or realistic.

The little bird can hit cashes with a rocket strike and blow em up alone in insurgency, know why cause I was 50 meters from the cashe. Kinda OP The Eurocopter does not have actual area effect damage and strafing rounds do not deviate or have a AOE effect. You have to be really good to kill with it but the little bird can go all out alone witch means it can damage APC's and even tanks in a even smaller package. But both helicopters can see laser targeters for squad support and CAS.

True, the gunpods do appear to be the .50 cal NATO MG variant. However, the question is still valid in that the MEC helicopter is underpowered. Additionally, I do not see a reason why just because the EA model appears to show the .50 variant mean that we cannot tweak around the code some to obtain a different weapon loadout.

Seeing as how the helicopter can carry 20mm cannon instead of the dual .50s, is it unrealistic to change the projectile type? Or, if DEVs find that unacceptable, to increase the fire rate, as others suggest. IMO, either way is a plus. Me personally, I'd like to see the GIAT NC 621 20mm cannon rounds/750rpm fire rate subbed in for what we have now, which I believe to be woefully inadequate.

This page you linked to here shows ammo capacity, fire rate, and other features of the weapon system.
