Usually the colour of the uniform is what gives them away, at a distance, a US Marine is Darker then a MEC guy

it will all come with time, you will get better at quicly seeing the differences in the uniform

until then remember this:

if you are unsure if it is friend or foe, it is a friend... unless it is shooting at you

If its a dire situation where you are taking fire and might possibly be killed, let your bullets decide friend or foe for you.

Other than that check the uniforms as H.sta said. The only graphic recommendation I can make is to make sure that view distance is on max and the highest resolution that your computer can handle helps.

If they are at a far enough of a range I just check the uniform or if I can't tell wait if a name pops up if it doesn't start shooting.

These are a few basic principles I go by when deciding if I should shoot or not.

Map
- This is the easiest method to use although it can be time consuming to. If you are not SL, and cannot place markers, workout a rough general direction the enemy is from you, what terrain they are on, then check your map. Constantly check your map when nothing is going on to watch team movements.

Guns/Uniform
- This comes with playing for a long time, once you recognise the features of the outlines of individual weapons or uniforms, it will become easier. Although not that straightforward due to friendlies picking up enemy kits. An example of this the G3 is a pretty easy weapon to spot the features of from far away.

Logical placement
- Would an enemy be where this guy is? or rather would a friendly be there? based on this you can mostly determine if someone is most likely friendly or enemy. Have enemies been shooting from this area before? is this a usual spot for enemies to be in?

Over time It becomes easier, although sometimes It is hard not to TK people.

Binoculars work great if you're unsure over a long distance. View distance on max. Graphics settings don't have to be maxed, but using your monitors native resolution and the highest anti-aliasing setting is important.

LOL I would firstly agree with this - this was actually my primary way of quickly identifying enemies. Until you find out some lonewolves and squads manage to get to wherever you are MUCH faster. Taking a ride with an APC or Chopper, or not, they didn't use the element of concealment... which you did, and it took hours for you to get to where you are, and now some 1337 rushing squad runs in front of you and blows your whole cover!
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

If in doubt, find cover and check your target using map and optics. I'm very conservative about checking my targets, I find it rarely, if ever, leads to me dying, whereas checking with bullets generally leads to at least some TKs.

If I know a person is friendly but they are pointing their gun at me I'll look right at them and crouch and stand and crouch and stand until they get bored.
