new graphics card and PSU?

Post by velocity »

i have been looking at the Radeon HD 5770 mainly because its cheap for what you get in return. my question is, what PSU would i need to run it?
i have heard that it doesnt use much power and have found some websites that support this but i cannot find anything that tells me the recommended i should have to run it and the rest of my rig, would a 500watt or 550watt psu run it?

I've been considering it myself because of the power use/performance. Anyone done a formula where you put your current GPU/Card in and find out how much that costs you/year?

Use this guide mate. It's a reliable one.

Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

Be very careful you work out what cables/connectors come with your PSU.

Also try to aim for 25% or so above the power you require.
Modular PSU's are great too, though personally i like the older brand Tagan (some of the cheaper tagans are terrible though). The high-end thermaltake modulars are like tanks and just never disappoint. Also the Arctic Cooling ones are good for very quiet systems (just put one in a server).
