If this is not an April Fools Joke, I want to know how these fine developer gentlemen make a living, specially after announcing high profile port to arma2. Thanks for your fine work devs. But this would take a ton of time, wouldn't it? I'll take PR any flavor, any day.

Re: Project Reality Vietnam Announced!
I don't know.. It all depends on how many people are working on this. I can't see how they have any time for something like this with Arma and working on the next version of PR, plus all those faction mods..sovereignBOOM wrote:If this is not an April Fools Joke, I want to know how these fine developer gentlemen make a living, specially after announcing high profile port to arma2. There is no way this can be for real.

I wish I had checked out Eve of Destruction before its popularity went down. It looks like a really cool mod.
Funny joke.

Eve of Destruction is one hell of a fine mod.. Came out on BF1942 many eons ago.. This version of EoD for BF1942 is still in production. New version was just released today. It has had over 400,000 downloads. In its prime, was a direct competitor of Desert Conflict. You can even thank EoD for those fine helicopter physics that showed up in Desert Conflict and many other mods that were running on BF1942. We were the first to include those into BF1942 via mod. (Helicopters that is.)MarineSeaknight wrote:I wish I had checked out Eve of Destruction before its popularity went down. It looks like a really cool mod.

After BF1942, we went to the BFV game and modded it one step better than EA.. Sadly, we were doing Vietnam on a Vietnam game. Everything we added into BFV.. EA eventually copied us and added it into BFV.. You can see where that went... Was still fun, but hard to compete with EA there.
With BF2, we cleaned the slate off once again.. Unfortunately, EoD by this time had lost most of the developement team. Most of us were pretty burned out. I and a few others carried the torch and put together a new version on the BF2 Game engine. Initially, it did pretty well, but like most mods on BF2.. Suffered quickly the torments of EA and ranking, etc. We did not offer enough of a game play change and could not capture the same excitment that we had enjoyed in times past. Therefore, EoD slowly succumbed to the same fate as many mods.
After the first version of EoD was released on BF2.. The mod team slowly disolved, leaving myself as the sole remaining "Original" Developer of the mod. Yes, I am the last of EoD's Original Crew.. Although, I was not a part of the team when EoD first started.. I joined the mod during v.12 as a tester. Today, I am it. I carry the EoD torch when it comes to the BF2 game engine. I do have a developer, Lotte, who does the BF1942 versions with his small crew of helpers. Therefore, we've kept both 42 and BF2 alive. I would like to say both the BFV version and BF2 version was a success in my opinion.. Both had well over 100,000 downloads of the mod. (Perhaps, more as some sites don't track it.) I just wish the BF2 version had enjoyed a bit more staying power in the mod scene. (Not that it is dead or that I have stopped working upon it. It is far from over.)
I can say that had you played EoD for BF2 when it first came out.. You probably would have liked it. Currently, the mod is still played and you can find servers hosting it.. However, it is usually in co-op mode most of the time. The bots will give you a good run for the money.. However, in the end, it really is not the same as playing against real people. (Still fun though..)
I myself, am a pilot for a living.. I fly turbo-prop and light business jets for a company that manages airplanes and offers charter services. I work an odd schedule. Some weeks, I may only work a day or two. Others, everyday. Therefore, my free time is varied.sovereignBOOM wrote:If this is not an April Fools Joke, I want to know how these fine developer gentlemen make a living, specially after announcing high profile port to arma2. Modding games is my hobby.. I have no official training in games or game developement, etc. Everything I know about modding, I have taught myself over the past 8 or 9 years. Sure, I have had some people hold my hand and give me some pointers a few times when I got stuck on something, but I have mostly been my own teacher. I think I've been pretty successful at it.. I've been on alot of mod teams and have helped many of them reach a pretty big audience. Here at PR, I do alot of the vehicle exports. If you have flown a chopper in PR or driven several of the APC and Tanks.. It is possible that you are in one of the exports I have done for this mod.
Would doing a PR:V mod take a lot of time.. You bet it would.

- It's been anounced at April 1st.
- Devs are working right now on PR, PR2 and PR:A which is almost unbelivable even without PR:V.
- The trailer looks like made within 15 mins
