I don't really see a need for flamethrowers since they don't have a large range compared to rifles. Then again, I'm not the end all source.

its a forest, the furthest you'll be able to shoot without hitting a tree would be about 50 meters probs in a proper jugly foresty place

We could make them shoot though objects so in some way they are better than a rifle.

maybe on some vehicles but as a kit it seems ridiculous

would be fun to drive around with a m113 or pbr "zippo"

If there was flamethrowers, it would be cool if their usefulness in clearing out caves could be somehow modeled.

aye, they were mostly mounted on PBRs n tanks. i have seen photos of portable flamethrowers but only in instances such as burning down hoochs n what not. not a 'combat role' as such.

That's about the only use I could see for them.

Well if the devs make the jungle as thick as real life than a flame thrower would be very, very usefull.
Firefights took place over a few dozen metres ALOT in vietnam, I have read lots of combat diaries of Aussie troops saying they have been engaged at under 5 metres. Intense stuff, it all relies on how thick the vegetation is though, there would be no need for one if they make all the maps look like the one in the trailer.

I doubt they will be, but even in thick vegetation, when someone sprays a flamethrower, it's like a LMG: #1 target because it's the most dangerous. I can see the guy with the zippo on his back being cut down as soon as he fires off his first 'burst' with it. I know when the mod comes out and I SL, that'll be the first guy I'll have my squad looking for in an engagement.

Same as in real life, he is a main target because he is so deadly. But given he would be used in a realistic kind of way he would be very handy, a pinned squad would be in trouble if they didn't kill him fast.

I doubt anybody on this forum is seriously opposed to flamethrowers in any shape or form :25_flamer
