CAS Bombing question

I was just wondering, if someone is flying CAS in a jet (F16, A10, etc) and there is a lase, can they drop the bomb without having a lock and have it fly to the location, will the bomb pick up the lase and hit it? Because I've heard people talking about "lobbing" the bomb (fly a little farther away, pull up, and release the bomb in a climb, causing it to arc and go farther).

Long story short, will bombs that are released without a lock still lock onto the lase by themselves and hit them?

I dont think soi think you can only do it if youre locked

Yes they will. For instance you can dive at a targets from 3000 and drop the bomb at 1500 and then pull up without thenemy every seeing you. The bomb will lock onto any lase it sees on its way down, you just have to be careful if it locks onto an enemy lase.
