You don't need an i7!

If you have the money then what the hell, but something that is half the price
will be more than enough for gaming. Particularly if you are on a budget.

If you are going to build/specifiy your own (which I did recently)

Then a website called 'Tom's Hardware' is the best place to start finding out
about components!

These forums are also a good way of bouncing ideas around.

Happy Building ;-)

Here is a fast quad core and a fast triple core, all you need is a video card and you can defintely run pr and arma 2 on all high. Much cheaper than building your own cpu this good or buying one this good. Hope this help. I got the zt one.

ZT SYSTEMS 7302MA-B AMD PHENOM II X4 920 @ 2.8GHZ - eBay (item 370355910703 end time Apr-02-10 10:44:27 PDT)

TRIPLE CORE ATHLON II 2.9GHz BAREBONE PC 2GB DDR3/500GB - eBay (item 200449420328 end time Apr-11-10 11:12:39 PDT)

Just add another $350 for a decent GfX Card and some more RAM

The ZT comes with 4GB of ram more than enough.

You can get the GT 240 for under 100 bucks. (get it for 70 bucks if you look very hard) It just came out in november 2009. It has the new ddr5 memory. Only nvidia card that uses it. Its very fast. Its about as good as the best 9000 series but uses less power and never overheats.

I'm one of those guys who despises anyone who would spend over a hundred dollars for a video card. I can remember when BF2 first came out people were buying the 8800GT for 300 bucks, while i had to settle for a 5200 for 40 bucks. Well now the gt 240 is out and it beats the 8800, glad i wasn't one of those suckers that spent all that money for a 8800.

Sorry but i had to grin a little when i read this...

I am playing PR with a AMD Athlon xp 2500+, 1833MHz (which is single core)
NVIDIA GeForce 6800Gt
and 2 Gb Ram which I just updated from 1 Gb. (I didn´t have probs with 1 gb)

And my PR settings are on medium I believe. Visibility is to 100% (absolutely necessary)

I get lag on some of the new maps but these are the ones where everybody else complains about lag as well (has been discussed in the forums)

I am curious about what resolution you are running. I got XP 4000+ and had to set every thing on low to run in 1920x1200 (native resolution of monitor) with a GeForce 9600 GT.

U´r welcome. Also do you use fraps ingame? It really lowers my performance.

get a used 9600gt for like 40 bucks, i upgraded my 7800gt with a 9600 on my p4 home machine and i was able to boost quite a lot of detail settings thx to this sweet cheap card. My machine now is cpu limited , so anything above 9600 gt is overkill for the slow procesor but it will boost your fps 40% easy

I am not running FRAPS at all. I however have XFire.
Two days ago I tried with all settings on high, no AA to see what it will be like... "Korengal Valley" showed me that I should not run these settings ("Op Baraccuda" was OK though).

I guess its the Mobo + CPU hitting its limits. I am on all Medium now to try that out.
I don't run many background processes - at least the ones I do run they did never seem to effect my performance or are neccessary (driver apps).
I started running speed fan to see my temps on my G15 display. Surprisingly this has not effected my game performance at all (I expected some stuttering).

As with anything, if you go with what is cheap now, you may end up spending the same again in half the time.

If you are upgrading/replacing components on an existing system then you
can often get some bargains.

However, if you want to build in a bit of future expansion or have something that will handle
more than just PR, then a bit of research into components is a good idea.

Expensive does not mean best, but Bang for Buck is a good place to start.

I agree with Grossi. Only place if found real giveaway deals and bang for my buck was on ebay. Dudes will rip you off online. People will sell you a 150 computer you can find on ebay for 600 bucks, with no good room for expansion even included. I highly recommend you shop around on ebay and compare deals you can find else where. They giving away computers with core i7 for 500 bucks on ebay compared to some people who will charge you 3000 bucks.
