Laser Guided Rocket Pods
Ok, my dad's company just got a contract from the Navy, and probably Marines if he was reading it to me correctly
U.S. Navy Declares BAE Systems' Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System Ready for Production and Deployment - MarketWatch
Its appearently just a guidance package put on the 2.75 inch rockets, no modifications of the launchers or other stuff, and appearently the military has something like 10000 of the things so it shoudl be interesting to see how it works out
BUt yeh doubt that this would be implemented but I felt I should mention this at least, since it would be damned near impossible to balance it

Re: Laser Guided Rocket Pods
The Question is will it be widespread amoung the aircraft in about 5-7 years later. Not so sure, with the laser guided being really odd in PR, I don't really think this will work.

Well how about laser TARGETED rockets? Basically, the same idea as the LTB in PR. They behave as rockets without lase, but you lase, and it'll fly towards it.

Lasur Gayded Missoiles?
PR devs might be able to make a hover function on the helicopters and then use free look to blow stuff up?

Would that make firing from behind hills possible?Hunt3r wrote:Well how about laser TARGETED rockets? Basically, the same idea as the LTB in PR. They behave as rockets without lase, but you lase, and it'll fly towards it.

dont think so or only in limited conditionsdtacs wrote:Would that make firing from behind hills possible?
imo this do not take it to the level of hellfire-like missile, but only decrease the spread of missile, lowering its CEP

Yep, if there were any modifications to Hydras I'd want slightly more damage and more deviation.
Besides, when coming in on a dive on Muttrah say for a lazed FOB + infantry, you would use LG Hellfires to take the FOB out but Hydras to hit the infantry. If we get LG Hydras then they will track the FOB laze too and wont hit the infantry.

What if the pilot has the option of using laser targeting or not? The pilot could choose to activate the targeting system or fire them unguided. Just give the pilot that extra choice.Gaffertape wrote:Yep, if there were any modifications to Hydras I'd want slightly more damage and more deviation.

Example: Flying the little bird, #1 gives me guided Hydras (Blinking LASER TARGETING ON or GUIDANCE ACTIVATED or something), #2 gives the dummy Hydras (Blinking GUIDANCE OFF or whatnot.).

From Wikipedia
A Spotter could laz a FB first for a hellfire, then after it hits, laz crates everything else for hydras, the cobra could stay beyond visual range.
give us two seperate Hydra Pods, one dumb firing, the other acting like mini hellfire for inf and logi trucks/jeeps. Could be mag linked?Where possible the system utilizes existing Hydra 70 components such as launchers, rocket motors, warheads and fuzes. The weapon bridges the gap between the Hydra 70 and AGM-114 Hellfire systems and provides a cost-effective method of engaging lightly-armoured point targets.

Yeh, it seems like it'd be unbalanced, but I have a feeling the devs would think of something haha
My dad's been telling me about this for a few years, and he's been excited as hell for it, guess since it makes something so stupid into such a smart thing
I mean imagine an apache with all pylons using these pods, and shooting on one target!!!! OMG!!!!! what woudl that be, 16 rockets?

Re: Laser Guided Rocket Pods
The Marines have, that's part of the reason they're interested in them. Especially since the UH-1Y has the capability to carry the 19 shot pods. The Navy is also looking to put them on the MQ-8 Fire Scout.Tofurkeymeister wrote:Imagine this... on a huey.
76 if they use the 19 round pods.DeltaFart wrote:I mean imagine an apache with all pylons using these pods, and shooting on one target!!!! OMG!!!!! what woudl that be, 16 rockets?

Re: Laser Guided Rocket Pods
Personally I like it, but could the co pilot possibly be able to fire the LG? I mean that way you have two people.... but I guess that would take away the purpose of the actual Attack choppers (cobra, apache)

Re: Laser Guided Rocket Pods
Hm, how about giving the pilot the option to either use laser targeted Hydras, or laser guided Hydras? Laser targeted ones would go into a lase, with a "lock" indication on the lase, while laser guided ones just go into where your crosshair points.
