Grenades make bang when lever is dropped.
On a grenade, you have three outer parts. The shell, the pin, and the lever. When you pull the pin, it releases the lever. When you throw the grenade, the lever flies off and the fuse is activated. Now, I may be wrong, but this youtube video seems to show that when the lever is released and the fuse is lit, the grenade makes a loud bang. I know it seems unimportant, but the effort needed is minimal. A simple sound file change in the editors, and it's easy enough to pull the sound from the internet through the analogue hole, or simply record it yourself.

LOL "i didn't mean it". Might be intresting hearing all those small bangs in a squad grenade volley.

Grenades do make a small crack just as the lever falls off and the fuse is lit. If you're not wearing any gloves you can sometimes even feel the heat from the "spark".
I don't know if it applies to all grenades though. It's possible some models have a smaller and/or more quiet poof.

The "lever" is actually called a spoon. And (at least) the m67 has 4 outer parts but who's counting.Astromici wrote:On a grenade, you have three outer parts. The shell, the pin, and the lever. You sure about that? Every source I check, including this field manual calls it a lever.gx wrote:The "lever" is actually called a spoon. And (at least) the m67 has 4 outer parts but who's counting.

Yes, I've only been in for 3 years, but I've never heard anyone call it a lever and not a spoon.

Perhaps it's just a sign of changing times. My father has always called the safety lever a spoon and he says it's from his time in training.gx wrote:Yes, I've only been in for 3 years, but I've never heard anyone call it a lever and not a spoon.

NZ Army uses the DM61A1, I've thrown a bunch and neither the practice or HE ones make an initial bang sound. Possibly it's the sound of the fuse being hit by the hammer.

Hmm... interesting. Would make throwing grenades even more evident (I mean, sometimes I just hear the grenade "metal" sound when it is VERY silent, so in loud shoot-outs this could be a nice addon.)
I wonder why no military advisors said that? (ie. we don't have it in-game already?)

it was explained in the video i posted earlier, its supposedly due to the fact that the UZRGM fuze that the F1 grenades use dont have a gas vent in themShadesOfBlack wrote:NZ Army uses the DM61A1, I've thrown a bunch and neither the practice or HE ones make an initial bang sound. Seriously, though, that would help cure my clink-phoby. I mean, everytime someone throws a grenade (that includes smoke and incendiary) I think it is landing right next to me and it's gonna blow. Now I know if is it ACTUALLY gonna blow.
