So my friend is having a problem with his computer, everything he does is taking a really long time to do. Like when he tries to load a PR map it takes like 20 minutes literally and whenever he tries to get on the internet it takes about 5 mins to finally come up. He just reformatted so he doesn't have a virus. I think it might be a hard drive problem and the reason I think so is because last night when he was trying to install Arma II from disk it took about 6 hours and I asked him to try and copy and paste a big folder (3gb's) and it said it would take 288 minutes....
His computer specs:
E6600 2.6ghz
4 GB DDR
9800GTX+
Windows XP SP3
Please reply with suggestions. Thanks!

Re: [XP] Everything is slow.
It does sound like a harddrive, run a benchmark to test it.
"Everest" (program) has a disk benchmark, then again might take a few days to complete (about 2 minutes normally)
Check the hard drive light, see if it's on constantly.

HDTune.
Grab that, benchmark and post up the results.
Might be worth doing a defrag as well. Auslogics Defrag.
Also check for physical problems, i.e if the PC has been moved recently the SATA cable may have come loose.

Re: [XP] Everything is slow.
Ok, he did the HDtune benchmark and these are the results he got, I think they speak for themselves.
Min .7 mb
Max 4.1 mb
Average 4.0
Access time 13.3
Burst rate 4.1 mb/sec
cpu usage 48.1

Re: [XP] Everything is slow.
Ok that is definitely his problem haha!
Get him to check the physical connections on the drive and motherboard.
How old is the HDD and when was the last time it was defragged?

Re: [XP] Everything is slow.
Hard drive (physical) connection problem, or BIOS (hard drive/raid options) set improperly imo.
