Tips for a new player please.

Post by mnovachis24 »

i need help with this game.... so used to regular BF2 and the standard affair shooters. just walking around to the defense point, minding my own business. all i hear is plink and im dead. i go again. plink. again. plink. Im finding myself incredibly difficult to see people and tell enemies from friendlies. i can barley see them even with the scoped version of the standard rifle. Im also running on max settings. I just play it like a standard shooter. I need to know what i should be doing on attacking and what to do on defense. should i just sit on top of a building over watching a main road? or go and push the front lines and hold?

welcome to the mod and forums

you need to join a squad and do as the squad leader directs you :) just tell them you are new and hopefully they will be nice to you ;D

if you ever get lost about what you need to do, look for a friendly and just follow him, and help him in whatever he does.

You can't play this mod as a standard shooter. I highly recommend you read the manual to get acquainted with the game, then join a squad and ask him what to do. Take things slowly, and do not rush. Don't just run into enemy fire. Hide from enemy vehicles. Learn what they look like and learn what your team looks like.

Welcome to the forums!!

If you played war IRL like a "standard affair shooter" you would have the same results ;)
That is what makes PR awesome: you need to address each game as you would IRL

Project Reality is a game where caution = life. You'll never just walk to a flag or point, you'll always be sprinting, or crawling, or staying with your shoulder to one wall. The best way to learn the game is to play it as if it were real life and you were really being shot at...and, as the others have said, read the manual for a basic intro, and join a squad and they should help you out.

Read and Listen to what people are saying, try to learn the terminology/slang/acronyms and have an understanding of what is going on.

Here is a good thread that ppl have contributed that has some good lists of many of these.

Remember if you can't kill it, you should be hiding from it.

Peeking around a corner to see if that tank is looking at you is generally a bad idea.

It takes time to tell who is friend and who's foe just by their uniforms, but you will learn it - probably the hard way, but still ;) Use your map a lot and remember where friendly units are and where your objective is. Anyone in between is usually hostile.

It takes time, a little bit skill and intuition and off you go.

Listen to you squadleader.

to tell enemy from foe, just hover ur crosshairs over them for a few seconds and if their names appear above their heads (in green or blue text) then theyre friendly. always be cautious on who you shoot since teammates who are holding enemy guns may LOOK like the enemy.

Defending - find position to where from you see only one enter, if you can see everytching around you then everytchin around can see you.

Atacking - Listen to SL, mabey someday you will be SL, but not yet.

Join a squad use mic say your new hopefully the SL is good and lets you get an easy job as an rifleman and say that you should follow orders and dont walk around for yourself like a noob looking for kills something he dont get because he gets shot by an Automatic Rifleman aka SAW, 50. cal, whole squad, or falls down a minor cliff and bleeds out. and read the manual atleast how kits, vehicles and spawn points work.

I found this sentence quite funny and since this is a war game forum I will put it here. No offense to the french just a good laugh.

well don't shoot right away especially because of deviation and to confirm an enemy

I suggest joining a good VOIP squad and tell them you are new they should help

dont dont dont use vehicles without asking for permission

Welcome to PR, my tips are..
Listen to your squadleader, He is the most important person in your squad!, Don't go rambo, it doesn't work like vanilla (Regular BF2), Learn the PR language (ie: dead dead = dead; dead = wounded; so forth and so on), and read the manual!

Also, cooperative mode doesn't hurt at all, It's a great learning platform :D )

when I was starting out in version 0.32, I had the same experience, I would walk along, look around and try to see someone, but I kept getting killed without knowing what shot me. What I had to do was the constantly remind myself, if this was real, I'd be in cover, so I must find cover everywhere I go. Oh, and always join a squad, they know where the enemy is and have plans, just follow the leader, he should know what hes doing- if you think he doesn't, find another leader.

1. Find cover
2. Locate the next cover
3. Run to next cover
4. Threat Scan
Repeat 'till you arrive

If contact is made with Hostiles:
3. Establish which direction the fire is coming from
4. Tell squad
5. Take a quick look with Binoculars to locate the enemy soldiers
6. Tell squad
7. Take shots if possible

Welcome. :)

As already stated, treat it like you would in real life; move from cover to cover, keep your spacing with your teammates, join squads and follow orders instantly and without question, and stay with your squad! PR is a game about teamwork, you get the best out of it when you find a good squad working together :) List of good SL's (Squad Leaders) here

Some general tips:

Wait a few seconds before shooting.
Always flank!
Always reload a gun you just picked up.
Know when you're about to get grenaded; if you see a bad guy close up and don't manage to kill him before he takes cover, you are probably going to get grenaded.
Don't run headlong into prepared enemy positions. They are set up in good kill zones, their deviation is pin-point perfect, you will die.
Use every asset you posses. Not enough people use grenades, or smoke grenades.

In PR, situational awareness is everything, shooting skills doesnt matter that much unlike in every other shooter game.

Better you know whats happening 360degrees around you, better player you are. You have to listen, look around and check your map to see what other players are doing, friendlys and enemies.
There where is no friendlies, might be enemies.
Listening to gunsounds is vital as well, surround sound system with soundcard and headset what supports 5.1 or 7.1 surround system makes it possible to hear which direction the sound is coming from, makes it 10 times easier to understand whats happening around you.

Most ppl are very predictable, when you are good player, you know what your enemy will do before they do it and that way you can always have the surprise advantage, but this requires alot of experience =) Outsmarting your enemy makes you win most of the times, not your weaponhandling skills =)
