[Faction Proposal] Separatists

Post by steve_06-07 »

I have an idea for a faction of Separatists whose only enemy would be the M.E.C. in a civil war type scenario. They would be a fictional faction like the Militia and M.E.C. so weaponry can be whatever it needs to be

Weaponry
I think that the Separatists would have 3 groups of weapons that they can choose from, it can be from 1 group or a mixture of all 3.

1: U.S/British Supplied Weapons
The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend.
Since the U.S./British is also fighting the M.E.C. and have been known in the past to supply it's enemies' enemies with weapons, so the Separatists could have M16A1's, Stingers, M67 Hand Grenades(possibly), FN FALs(I know it's a WIP), and other weaponry like C4 and the U.S. AT mines.

2: Captured M.E.C. Weapons
Kind of self explanatory, an organized resistance fighting a better supplied enemy that occupies the same territory might be inclined to use there enemies weapons because of more available ammo. G3's are the first that come to mind they can use, plus RPG-26s and more average M.E.C. grunt weapons that may be used (MP5's captured from M.E.C. BDRM operators), no specialist weapons like Eryx or the M.E.C. sniper. Possibly the SA-7 Grail.

3: "Classical" Weapons
Ak-47s, RPG-7s, SVDs, Lee Enfield, RKG-3s, DShK's pretty much can fill the gaps.

Vehicles
Since this is a more evolved fighting force and not an insurgency they wouldn't use civilian hatchback cars. Technicals would be easily made or acquired, and captured URAL trucks or UAZ jeeps would also be common. Heavier captured weapons would most likely just be a BDRM-2 vehicle with the possibility of a Spandrel, and these would be more rare. No Tanks, APC's, or Aircraft .

Uniforms
I was thinking since this isn't an insurgency they would have a more uniformed outfits like the Militia, and also they wouldn't have to wear masks (they could if they wanted) because they control some land and don't live under the enemies nose. Old U.S. desert camo from the first Gulf War or some Woodland BDU's. Some M.E.C. style layouts for the more specialized kits since they'd probably take equipment from dead M.E.C. soldiers.

Map layouts
Though they are a more evolved fighting force they aren't strong enough to attack a well funded, better equipped enemy. The maps would most likely be in more remote areas of the Middle East preferably mountainous areas with caves that has a lot of cover from possible M.E.C. air support. There may be some maps where they have took over a populated area because the M.E.C. weren't in the area at the time. In all the maps I think it should be the M.E.C. doing the attacking because these Separatists are threatening to destabilize whatever area they are in, plus the Separatists wouldn't have the manpower/equipment to attack a more advanced opponent.

Game Modes
The remote area maps should be cache hunting, as if the M.E.C. were there to weaken the Separatists and to help prevent them from expanding. The populated maps would be AAS, as if the M.E.C. were there to liberate the people from the Separatists.

Please take this into consideration, besides from the what the Separatists would look like and a map has yet to be made or recycled, all the weapons/vehicles I mentioned are already in game, plus the Separatists would speak Arabic so no new voices are needed.

*Edit, WIP of the spreadsheet.

Well, it kinda sounds like militia, because militia is pretty much a middle between conforces and insurgents... and now you propose the middle between militia and insurgents... I'm kinda puzzled, not too sure what to think about this...

I don't really think this would really add something to the mod, if you like the idea of the mec having a cachehunt on their hometurf you could as well make such a map against regular insurgents, maybe change their kit layout a little for that particular map, it would save a lot of work anyhow.

I think an MEC vs Insurgent type map would be awesome, but I don't think it really needs a new faction.

So long as they aren't called "Iraqi Insurgents", and they looked a little more militant like Hamas without all of them wearing masks. If they were to be called Iraqi Insurgents there would be a lot of problems with "Oh they don't use BDRM's" and other "unrealistic" comments like that. I just thought it'd be cool to have a more Civil War style scenario for the M.E.C. like the Russians have with the Militia, just without both sides having tanks.

So as long as this....
Oh wait. It would still be a waste of time.

No new factions are being approved until Some Current COMFACs are going in game. this Idea sounds like a waste of time to begin with. The time you put into this means that you do obiviously support it. But for modders like myself. Your renaming a group making new weapons and just making more files that we don't need. we have to get about 7 more teams into the PR Build. No point in wasting time with making a new one.

Fine, there are nicer ways to say no than that though besides "waste of time", I thought I'd at least suggest.

IIRC it was no new Blufor factions whereas new Opfor are encouraged.

But regardless I agree the existing insurgents are enough for a MEC insurgency map.

MEC vs INS type faction would be epic! i also agree with OP's weapon choice of traditional Ak variants and PKM's etc , coupled with some G3 based kits and US supplied weapons (stingers, AT of sorts like At4 ?)

how easy would it be , with DEV permission, to duplicate the current INS/Milita and reskin them (if needed) and change weapon load out abit? would reduce work load alot.

IIRC it is possible to set different kits for the same faction on different maps (Airborne is the perfect example) so mixing weapons for a MEC insurgency theater should be easy to do. However there is the issue of skins which I dont know if its changeable along with the kits

But remember they should be called Separatists, Insurgents are more of a civilian based fighting force, this group would be equipped to the point of having light vehicles like the BDRM-2 and some transport/supply trucks, any light vehicle like that that they stole from the M>E.C., but they still use technicals.

Lets stop and think about this....for a second.
A fictional, low - ranking force, for the desert theatre?
I think there is a lot more to this than first recognised, such fictional forces in PR can be implemented in different scenarios, but they are limited by geographic location (Taliban in afghanistan, Militia in East Europe). We have yet to find a low-ranking desert faction (Insurgents are civilian, this faction is some sort of organised force) that can be applied to such scenarios. Such a faction could cover quite a lot of the map fighting all sorts of different forces, from GB, U.S.A and USMC to Russia, Canada and M.E.C (and quite possibly following COMFAC's). Such a force may present the possibility to create more desert maps.

They would not fight insurgents, militia or taliban however, insurgents may be found in more urban environments whereas separatists would fight in open-ish desert terrain.
And as stated earlier, would be easy to put together.

But what do I know? I just visit realitymod.com sometimes.

You make a good point bounty, but I think that's a role that could be easily filled by the Hamas faction. While Jonny pointed out that some organized resistance groups have had heavy arms in the past, it is fairly rare. Even in the case of the OUN, their primary weapons were small arms, and they only received tanks from the Nazis when they (the Nazis) were getting pushed out of the Ukraine, and those tanks lasted a very short period of time. As early as 1944 the OUN was already fighting a primarily guerrilla battle against the Soviets (source:Agentura: Soviet Informants' Networks & the Ukrainian Underground in Galicia, 1944-48 -- Burds 11 (1): 89 -- East European Politics & Societies). I don't think there is any real basis for a conventionally armed insurgent force in the middle east.

That's why it's fictitious, a group that started because the M.E.C. (Also fictitious) took power, and the only way they acquire their heavier vehicles are by stealing from the M.E.C., and technicals are made by the group. In a lot of the Middle East, small arms are quite common (Iraq for example, think those weapons would disappear?), so some sort of force could be made and attack their enemy to gain more weapons and possibly vehicles.

Perhaps, but again with the regional limitations, HAMAS are quite boxed in around the area of Gaza, concerntrated against the IDF. (I dont know if asad khal is in israel, but its fictional too)

Im aiming towards the idea of the separatists being featured across the middle east, from Egypt to Kazakhstan, in such a way that they can be involved against multiple armies. So far HAMAS seem to only be fighting the IDF.

Though I agree with you, that such a small group should not be able to acquire medium vehicles like BRDM's, maybe give them vodnik's with more seats to function as APC's?

BDRM's are used by the M.E.C. and are a lot more common than Vodniks. Vodniks are barely used even by Russia.

(Because they got stolen by separatists, wink wink)
Edit : I realised my mistake, they seem to be quite...rare.
Maybe a custom vehicle from homebase?
