Basrah...

Post by FuzzySquirrel »

Is it me, or is Basrah Just not fun without the Merlin/Lynx? Honestly, It was just better in .75 with the Merlin. It's still played, but its not as good. There is no real reason to put it back in, but there wasnt good reason to take it out either (Sound bug...but thats fixed now soooooo)

I still love it, mechanised infantry FTW. The lynx had its moments, but any fighting in the city and it was rendered useless, teh Merlin was good for supply runs however the bugs with it prevent it ever being prominent until its fixed.

the only asset other than what is already on it, that I think would be good, would be a less heavily armed APC like teh bulldog, but we don't have one.

but its a well rounded bunch of assets atm. Though I've yet to try the Basrah V2 that I've spotted returning to the server lists, what does that use? (its USA right?)

Yeh, US Army on Basrah V2.

but. I'd still like to see the Merlin come back, Maybe the Chinook if the Merlin is still broke. It just seems pointless to have a large Airport without assets.

It's one of the most fun and most balanced Insurgency maps. Assets are fine as they are IMO.

^Totally. Best insu map right after Gaza.

Only one thing what I hate a bit is that the bridge at near west map border is indestructible. I dont see logic when all rest bridges are destructible.

Needs the a10 back ;)

I really lost the appeal of this map 0.7/.8 onwards, just Brits just camp around the city shooting in and its a stalemate. The city needs to be reworked/made bigger imo, so it has a lot of lighter city buildings on the outskirts so the Brits actually bother going in.

One asset doesn't make a map fun or not for the rest of the players on the server.

Al Basrah is indeed a really good map despite its age. Balanced and plays well. I don't miss A-10, Apaches, Merlin or Lynx. There is enough transport already and tank is more than capable of keeping insurgent's heads down when needed.

The reason for that bridge being indestructible is probably more technical than tactical. It's made of two interconnected bridge head objects, which doesn't have any destructible parts. Making it desctructible shouldn't be hard, albeit it would require reshaping river banks to make destructible bridge part fit.

I like most maps as long as the squad I am in is fine.

0.5 Basrah will always be the most fun map I've ever played. It seemed like even with all of the USMC's heavy assets, Insurgents would still put up a great fight once the fighting entered the city.

I think heli trans worked incrediblly well on this Map it really should have at least the chinnok in or lynx
put the merlin in if you can s the chinnok is becoming to be overused

AFAIK, Al Basrah doesn't have a long enough view distance to prevent the sound bugs from helicopters.

I would rather have no vehicles at all, before I would want to return to the helicopter sound hovering over my head for hours on end. And it's an especially annoying bug when it comes to doing AA. And I would guess that is a large part of why the merlin or lynx so rarely got shot down.(That and the fact that there was only 1 AA kit) So I would almost argue that having a helicopter and it's included sound bugs is worse for gameplay than the current setup of Al Basrah.

And that's not even getting into the fact that a helicopter should not even be needed for attacking such a small city surrounded by desert. In my opinion, the map is perfect for land based armored vehicles.

I really miss the choppers just for the situation where you would get seperated from your squad with no nearby FBs to spawn at or the are overrun. And what apc really wants to run back for a few guys while supporting a group of friendly infantry.

It adds a new dimension of tactics does it not?

As for the sound bug - I'm pretty sure they said they fixed the sound bug, and that the Challenger would have the bug if they didnt fix it.

Was a completely different game back than when you think about it. Those assets would never work in .9. Cant deny was very fun for both sides though

Its still one of my best maps (first map in ins mode I played. was it the only ins map back then?) but it could do with the merlin and VCP being capable again like .6 was it? maybe keeping VCP would make the merlin spawn in 10mins after round start or something so brits only have to hold for a little wile and not get bogged down like before.
