Closer air support, when squadleading do you call it in or dont you bother with it
I see often a team getting hit hard by armor or a large group of hostiles and nobody calling in Close air support, makes me feel bad for the pilots waiting for targets.
When you are playing on a public server, do you make use of CAS as a squadleader, calling it in on an enemy squad or armor providing a grid, kpad, or dont you bother with ?
If you dont bother with calling in CAS why is that so ?

When ever possible i do, had a round on a mumble server on muttrah a month back... the squad leaders channel was almost constant talk as all the SL's where using the huey/cobra for constant attack runs... was intense

if there is any means of quick comms, yes. all the time. nothing more satisfying than calling in bombs on unsuspecting victims

I try to use whatever support is present, the more fire we put down on our target, the safer my squad is.
I like having an APC supporting my squad more than CAS since we can ride with it, use it as cover, use it as fire support, use it for kits, use it for ammo; but when a hard target arrives theres nothing better than CAS to take it out.

For me, every target that I can safely call CAS on I will. Be it if it infantry, armor/transports or even statics.
Infantry are fragile and slow, a well timed/informed CAS stike will ensure that your squad is in it 's best case scenario for assaulting that target.
So long story short, if I've got CAS available....i'm gonna use it every chance I get.

I use it all the time, granted it's available.
I remember a Silent Eagle match, my squad came over the western side of the village and had a perfect view! FOB, AA, TOW, ATLEAST 2 full enemy squads, and 2 APCS, just sitting there scanning. I had the pilot in mumble, gave him the cord. marked it and told him to prepare for laze, Pilot confirmed he was ready for lazed and I lit it up!
3 LGB's later the Village FOB, stationary assets, infantry, and the 2 APCs were nothing but a crater.
Good times. =D

@Jonny, iirc I was talking about attack helos? any who with our current techniques we usually decimate easy targets with jets to save infantry the risk. A jet can quite happily bomb a tank from above the clouds= no risk, a jet can strafe infantry if it has an accurate marker from above the clouds, no risk.
If you know the jet pilot and they flys above the clouds, the only risk he has is other jets its worth calling them in, if they are going to hit below cloud level then make sure there is nothing on the ground to say hello to them.
Helos as i explained on our forums are more at risk as their hellfires cant go very far into the clouds (1km or something to that effect depending on how high your are) and so are targets for things like apcs, aa etc and should only be called in if its safe. however if its infantry, then the attack helo can shoot beyond visual range with its cannons with the help of an accurate spotter.
During the friendly match of TeamGB vs Germany for the world cup cas was quite effective and saved us from prolonged firefights and was only taken down by an enemy jet.

When playing karbala i almost always fly the LB and NOBODY ever calls in CAS.
Depending on the server and the pilots i almost always call in CAS on kashan because its fun to relay it through the commander.

I never call it in on servers without commander/mumble.
Reason: You have to laser it, set cont *Bullet hits you in the face*

There is no such thing as "Over Kill" in PR.
What ever is not friendly. Laze it, Map mark it. Hide. That's what I do every time if there is some CAS around to use. I Don't care if its 1 lone troop or 5 tanks. If I can laze it. It gets lazed. I Just wish everybody would do that when I am in a jet.

The new marker system make it much easier to do CAS without text/audio communication.
If both the SL and the Pilot use what they are given in terms of comm rose options, it can be done without writing/saying a single word.

Re: Closer air support, when squadleading do you call it in or dont you bother with i
As an inf-sq leader I always rely on the jet's LGBs when facing armored vehicles, of which I'm sure, my squad's HAT cannot take out in one shot or when they pose a threat to friendly units.
I usually dont call in cas against infantry unless they are heavily threatening own forces, since strafing runs endanger the planes, because they have to go in pretty low. Furthermore, I don't want them to waste their bombs on 1-2 riflemen, since I really hate it when a tank pops up on a hill and i cant request a LGB in time because the planes are reloading at base, or got shot down while starting/landing.
I really cant understand, why squadleaders don't use the GTLD more often, since the new marking functions introduced in 0.9 made CAS so much more efficient.

people still don't use the GTLD and "lase" the target though XD[R-DEV]dbzao wrote:The new marker system make it much easier to do CAS without text/audio communication.

I never call it because I always fly it XDXD but it is boring that the infantry doesnt request support from us ( CAS pilots ) and if someone makes CAS squad and I'm unable to fly then yes i do call it.

I call it in as often as possible.
But i have noticed alot of SLs very rarely use it, especially on INS maps.. I have played rounds as LB CAS pilot were i didnt get a sinlge lase, even though i kept letting the team know i was available.
That just makes me sad.

If the pilots are good enough and actually survive long enough then I use it everytime I can.
Biggest issue I've experienced is that the laser will not set sometimes no matter what you do.

lol, most of the time the chopper or fighter aircraft pilot does not even care or pays attention when I laze an enemy FOB that has an AT and AA nests in Kashan or Silent eagle. Or armored vehicles. They just fly around the map and minute later I check they're downed...... So most recently I do not bother lazing. ONLY rarely there are competent pilots that work with the team, hard to find such people these days
