how about some smaller maps?

Post by Sneak Attack »

One thing I would really like to see in PRV would be some smaller maps. I know PR is all about the massive maps but they become extremely tedious. I usually end up walking across half a map in normal PR because the vehicles get taken or exploded or eaten or something and then take 35 years to spawn in again and if there is going to be even less vehicles in PRV because of the constraints jungles put on vehicle movement then I think we really need smaller maps that one can quickly get into the fun instead of having to run for 20 min before getting to the fight. Also with the lack of scoped weapons there is no need for massive maps.

I am really looking forward to not having scope battles with a squad 500m away where it looks like im shooting at a speck on the top of a hill, and actually shooting at something close to me that resembles a human body and not a dot on the horizon.
Im not saying we need all small maps because some times the big ones can be fun. but Im just getting tired of the expansive dry maps of normal PR and I think smaller maps would bring a whole new art of war into the picture.

PR:V will be a true PR and not have different goals, but, since most soldiers had no scope, the combat distance was shorter, which will enable smaller maps again, that simply got tooo spammy in PR (e.g. Ghost Train)

Please for the love of god, keep the maps big. There will always be Skirmish.

do you enjoy walking forever or waiting 12 days for vehicles to spawn because an infantry map is 56 miles long? Seems asinine for infantry close quarter combat maps

I argee with salami 100% cause thats Project REALITY.

On big maps you can make nice ambushes and i like to walk around in a big jungle map and try to flank.

I dont like if i see a enemy too fast on a map (but not always).

long walks in the war Thats the reality

the maps can be as big as possible, as long as there the team keep focusing on creation and protection of forward bases so you don't always have to spawn at the main base, I believe that's the largest frustration of sneak. maybe you yourself should try something like that?

anyway I wouldn't mind a few 2 km maps either, but I think we'll have enough of those with tad sae and ghost train(or were those 1 km maps?)

Chill, I doubt you'll see 4km jungle maps in PRV at least until 2020 when everyone will be able to run them. :p

Tad Sae and OGT are 1km.

ya but they dont because some guy crashed half the choppers and the apcs got exploded and 4 squads already took the jeeps out and then left them in the middle of no where. I understand the reality thing but in reality soldiers dont stand around and wait for a truck to appear, they go play cards or talk with each other or watch tv or make food or do something to pass the time, video games dont let you do that. I know you have all had that happen before where you just wait or walk a huge distance, no taking a nap or playing cards or other time passing activities, you stand there and occasionally switch guns or jump on a sand bag or run around in circles or run into your team mate abunch.
Im not saying absolutely no large maps ever. you large map folk got a whole slew of them in reg PR, now us smaller jungle map people wana have a go at it aswell!

well ill speak for sane people left on the forum when i say i dont like walking around on a video game. It's not some sort of walking sim it's an FPS. Btw if this is supposed to include people from eod wont they want to keep an existing playerbase- im guessing not many ppl would be in favour of this as the majority play bf2.

ya i like the fighting parts of PR but they seem to be getting fewer and farther between while the walking or digging or time that i am dead and waiting to spawn or walk is getting more prevalent and PRV seems like a good venue to bring the fight back to PR.

I'm against big maps.

Every time when I suggested smaller maps, tighter (wwII style) battles, most of the people used the argument that in 21st century that is how the armies fight. If there will be PR:V, at least we can go with tough battles that you can't run away from. You have to stay and fight.

I agree, i often feel maps are 4km just because its possible,...i really hope to see some tighter maps in PR:v. You don't need large maps if you only have 50 foot visibility & iron sights.

And no its not reality... its a video game, a game based on BF2 at that.

I'm 100% FOR big maps.

I love Project Reality, and one of the main reasons why I play the game is because the maps are huge.

Though this is a video game, with the current engine, a push towards reality should always be striven for IMO.

Large maps immerse you and make you feel like you're fighting in a true combat zone instead of a small arena made just for fragging.

Maps in games like Call of Duty are so small that they're just a spam-fest of grenades and people unrealistically dying everywhere. Most battles fought in Vietnam and Modern Warfare are squad-based, with small fireteams and units maneuvering and engaging each other over a large swath of territory.

Plus I don't think that flying helicopters and planes would be so much fun in small maps.

I understand that walking long distances can get boring, but that makes the game fun by making you want to stay alive after you've worked so hard to get your butt to a firefight. Plus a good team creates well-placed FOB's spread out across the map, and a good team maintains their vehicles. Having a bad team results in neither of those occurring most of the time, so it's a suitable penalty in my opinion for the team with bad teammembers and teamwork.

I really really want there to be large maps please. The larger the maps, the greater the flexibility, and the less there is of a spam-fest. I really don't want Call of Duty-esque style of gameplay anywhere even CLOSE to PR.

Large maps are what endeared me to the Battlefield and PR games in the first place. In my opinion, large outdoor settings like Vietnam should have even MORE space.

If you want smaller maps there's BF:V. I think PR is about slower gaming and if you want slower gaming you'll have to shove it in forcibly by bigger maps and more forced teamwork.
