Mumble Suggestion: Transport Channel

Post by Dude388 »

Unfortunatly, Mumble is a new system to me so i'm not fully aware of it's limitations....but from what I've read my suggestion should be possible.

What this would add is an additional channel to each server under PRMumble for all transport players. This channel would allow for direct communication between the transport and the SL requesting it.

It would work something like this:

A player would enter the game and select the pilots kit (as an example) and then join the Transport channel (in addition to the SL channel if they are a squad leader). The channel would allow for comunication between players in the Transport channel for your team...but you'd also recieve voice from SLs requesting transport who press the Transport key. Players only in the SL squad would be able to press and hold a key to request a transport....but they would have to hold the key down afterwards to be able recieve confirmation from one of the transports. The moment they release the key, that player is muted and deafened to the Transport channel.

The first/closest player to respond would say their call-sign and confirm they're pick-up request (ie "Dude388 confirming your request RHINO, proceeding to your local now"). The SL would then reply to the player by confirming the call-sign and pickup and relaying information on LZ status (ie. "Roger Dude388 Standing by for evac, be advised of some enemy pressence in the area).

The purpose of the confirmation is to let the others in the Transport channel that the SL has chosen that player for their pick-up so two chopper don't arrive. Once the transport arrives SLs can use the normal Mumble chat to inform the driver/pilot the requested dropoff zone, or they can use the Transport Channel to avoid enemies overhearing the destination.

The purpose of this channel is for players that are performing transport in the transport squad (ie. Helo Trans squad)...but aren't SLs so they can't join the SL mumble channel. This would allow them communication abilities and overall increase the fluid motion of transportation in real life to a better extent.

Dude we have been discussing pretty much this for a while here:

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f18-pr-bf2-suggestions/80290-mumble-development.html

But atm probably best to call for supplies and/or trans via the commo rose and if precisions or details are needed use the SL channel or if applicable talk to the driver/pilot with mumble positional when he shows up? Plus using the vehicle on the way as a confirmation is clear and the fly boys are bright enough to ensure only one heli goes? Or to expand on your suggestion have all trans go into SL channel wouldn't be a bad thing as long as EVERYONE tries their best to keep the comms short sharp and factual.

Would be a dream to have numpad as direct squad-squad comms to cut down on SLS (just invented that - Squad leader stress)!

Ya I saw that thread, but I saw that my idea was different from what your aim was....and I didn't want to start Hijacking your thread with my own idea (I hate people who do that).

As for joining the SL channel while Transporting didn't go so well. A player asked me what squad I was leading, I said I was just there so players could give have a direct contact to my Helo (seeing as how I was flying the second avaible chopper and was not the SL of the trans squad).

Long story short, some arguements ensued and it resulted in a kick from the server. So since then I haven't joined the SL channel unless i'm a SL (even if i'm my reasons help teamwork).

Well, that person was retarded. The SL channel is for team communication, which involves, logistics, transportation, CAS, and all that good stuff. Who was the guy BTW?

Now, the Mumble channel system doesn't work in a way that would make your idea viable. Just join the SL channel.

Well it wasn't the guys fault...he just wanted to know what squad I was in. Like I said after a long arguement with people on my side and people against me...I guess some admin just kicked me to end it.

I don't remember the server, but it wasn't a big one, so I figured if people were that against it on that server....it'd be the same on the bigger servers.
