Can't join any servers (after installing 0.91)

I had just started to forget what a complete ***** PR can be in terms of not working once you install a new patch...

Had been away from PR for a week or so due to having 5 german girls staying at my house. When that heavy burden of female presence and non-stop pyjamas partying finally lifted I was glad to see that a new patch had been released. They have lowered the squad req. for medic to 2 from 4! Smart move, yes! Time to rock'n'roll!

Whenever I try to join any server I just keep getting dropped back to the server browser once the map is fully loaded.

I have tried removing everything related to PB and installing it again but to no avail. Will now try to download the full client (and BF2 1.5 as well I guess) unless someone here might come up with a better idea. Would be great not to have to download the full client and BF2-patch again since my Inet is fairly slow and it will most likely take my days to download all necessary files, not to mention having to look for that BF2 disc again. So, are there any suggestions out there? Is this a common problem or is it just me? Did a semi-lame attempt at searching but just found a few mentions of similar issues (and no clear answers as to what one can do about it).

OS is XP 32 bit SP2, and I'm running AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800 with 2 GB RAM and a Geforce 8800 GT. Had 0 problems running 0.9.

Bump! 0.91 created more probs than it fixed for me, sometimes I CTD after loading a map, or now PR freezes when I try to update server list, and after a while unfreezes w/ no servers on list.

An update on this. I solved the last problem by removing PR and then downloading the full version of 0.91. Then everything was dandy until today when I notice the problems are back, albeit in a somewhat different form. Now I actually manage to reach the SQUAD ASSIGNMENT-stage of loading, but when I try to click to deploy I lose connection and crash back to server browser. That happens most of the time. Sometimes I just crash in the middle of loading, and sometimes PR just stops working completely. I did get onto a server for just 10 secs or so, enough time to join a squad, and then it crashed back to browser "connection to the server has been lost".

I haven't changed anything during this time...

Check Punkbuster B is set to auto re-start.

Open your Control Panel. Go to Administrative Services. Click

on Services while PR is running. Select Punkbuster B, right click, select properties, select the

recovery tab and make sure they all say "Restart the service" for all three dropdowns. You can do

the same for PB A, but generally speaking, it's the B client that stops responding. Any time you

update PB, you may need to re-do this step.

W7 users = In services check box which states “Allow this service to interact with the desktop.

I appreciate the suggestion - will try it out and see if it works. Today I managed to play without problems for an hour or so, then I was dropped. I rejoined the server and was dropped within 2 mins. Rejoined another time and was dropped almost immediately... Restarting PR didn't help either. Hopefully your PB-suggestion will improve solve the issues I'm having.

I changed the restart timer from 1 to 0 minutes (for insta-restart, correct?).

No I think that will stop it from restarting. Leave it at 1. Just make sure they all say "Restart the service" for all three drop downs.

Thought I would bump this with an update. What happened was that I could play without serious problems (just occasional crashes once in a while) for a week or so. Now since 3 days ago I can't join any servers at all. I load the map, once it's 100% the music just keeps on playing for 5-10 secs and then it crashes back to server browser.

It's almost fascinating how the problem just comes and goes like this without me changing anything either in PR or in XP.
