Wow, well I hope bf2 is advanced enough to do something like that.

You got some good ideas I hope bf2 is very versatile to allow some of these :!:

We'll look into this. Naturally, one would expect that blowing the wheels off of a vehicle would affect it's performance. Of course, you can already get this effect if you are to simply destroy the vehicle completely, but total realism is always the aim for Project Reality; we're going to do our best to ensure the vehicles act and handle as realistically as possible.

Could ragdoll physics(probly not the right term, but its a similar concept) ever be applied to vehicles? Maybe not in BF2, but in the future or if the were and SDK. IE if a missle hit a planes wing the wing would come off... but the entire plane would not explode(it might in a few seconds, but the pilot wouldn't be insta-dead). Or a helocopter could be hit in the rear with an RPG, blowing out part of the passenger compartment/landing gear but still be air worthy. Would be very nifty, but I assume it would take a lot of effort on the part of the coding team doing it.

That's not really ragdoll physics. You can only really see ragdoll physics on objects which use bone structures. These don't just include players' skeletons, these can also include things like antennae, or objects flapping in the breeze. We'll see what we can do about getting area-specific damage on vehicles. It'll be a challenge, but we're going to make the vehicles are realistic as possible using what we have.

perhaps not a wheel, but tracks off a tank; hence disabling it.

Nobody really know s too much about the abilities of the BF2 engine yet, but im assuming that you wont be able to shoot out tires or knock treads off tank, although it would be a great addition. But I never say never after seeing some of the mods for BF42 have shown me, simply stunning.

There definately should be a way to disable vehicles, if its possible. Taking out the treads of a tank, or blowing the wheels off a humvee with some detonating bomb or something of the sort.. it should also be relatively easily repairable. It should have the effect of disabling the tank's ability to move properly but not really affect its overall armour.. ie, if you're in a T-72 and you knock out the front right treads of an Abrams, the Abrams should still slaughter you.. just not be able to move, and need to repair it first.

If actually displacing a wheel / track from a vehicle will be too difficult, then perhaps making sure the wheels / tracks are significant 'weak spot'. So, you are rewarded for your efforts to target the wheels/ tracks!

That sounds like something far down the road in my eyes, at the start I hope you guys concentrate on things like vehicle dynamics, armor, etc... Whether or not you allow opposing teams to use their foes vehicles, weapons, and so on.

Once the core mod is in place then by all means put on the frills. :)
