possible for a router to have adware??

now this issue occour only at my parents but on all PC's connecting to their router.

the Issue: internet browsers with open up adverts in seperate windows,tabs or instead of what you want this occours when connecting to these forums but most often when using google. when clicking a link on google instead of connecting you to your search istead a different search engine is opened in a new tab to run the google link you have to close the new tab/window and then click on the google link to connect to your search.

once again this only occours when on the network at my parents house, also something (unknown) interfers (sp) with processes as explainded in the above link.

please help.
