GTX 260 or HD 4890?

To replace my Dead card, which is better, they look about the same. So, In your guy's opinions, what's best?

Nvidia!!! Everytime I hear about a problem related to a video card it is always ATI.

Nvidia is more expensive usually, but I think most games are created with them in mind (or installed.)

4890 has the edge in games, especially if you get one that can hit a 1Ghz core clock. (Proof here, is a GTX275 vs 4890 review but the GTX260 is included in the graphs.)

However if you plan to use technologies that are only on/better on nV cards (Such as CUDA, PhysX, 3D Vision etc etc) then I'd go with nVidia. Personally I try to stick with nVidia cards myself, as I've had a better experience with them and I use CUDA to fold.

Just remember with Nvidia there's a strict rule about brands, sometime it'll do better for you if you buy from a proven brand. I don't exactly know about BFG, as I've never owned one of their cards, but I know PNY, and EVGA are top notch all around.

I would go for 4890 because of the power/price ratio, ive had terrible driver experiences on Nvidia
in benchmarks it seems that the 4870 is better than the 260
also both have GDDR5 1GB and the 260has 896 mb.
also if you do plan on using stupid and expensive things like 3d vision then go for.
its sort of a pick your poison deal,
since there is no consistency in any reviews with the 4890 its either better than a 285 or worse than a 275
depending on the games
although it does get a bit less hot under load than the 260

I have this exact card. I have had 3 BFG cards now and they are in my opinion the best out there. You get a lifetime warranty and 24/7 tech support which, thankfully i haven't had to use, not many of the others who use nvidia based cards offer that. The card itself is great for PR and i manage to run both Crysis and FSX with all settings on ultra high. I've been using mine for about a year now and haven't had any problems what so ever. Just make sure the rest of your hardware is up to date, otherwise you will limit the cards performance. Also make sure the card can fit. It is quite big, takes up 2 16x slots, but it only needs one 16x slot to plug into, the card extends quite far back so make sure you have a big enough case, i found i had to buy a new case as the card was blocked by the tower that accommodates the hard drives. Also you need a decent power supply, the card needs 2x 6pin auxiliary power connectors.

I highly recommend the the BFG 260 card and as always you can't go wrong with nvidia.

They're mostly even, and you should remember, the 260 has 448-bit bandwith as opposed to 256-bit on the HD 4890, I don't have a super hi-res monitor anyway, so the 1GB/896 barrier wont effect me to much. I also had a 4870 before it died (after 3 days...) and while its performance was o.k, it wasn't what I was hoping for, but heck, I might splurge and get a GTX 275.

Both cards will run BF2 R at 100fps.For PR:A2 a 4890 would be a better choice then a 260.I have both (2x260, and
one 4890).I'd go with dx11 card (like 5850 or 5770) however.

I don't know man, you'll have the latest greatest with that card but i got a gt 240 ddr5 for a 3rd of that.(70 bucks) and i can play the Arma 2 on very high. If it was me i wouldn't spend the extra 150 for that extra small amount of performance. My thoughts.

Thats just me i'd never spend more than a hundred bucks for a card, Plenty people do however. But no matter what you get you not gonna get 100 fps on Arma 2. I only play PR and ARMA 2 and don't plan on getting another game till PR 2. So my card suites me. If all you playing is the same then I say don't waste your money on that card. But if you wanna play other games i don't know how the gt 240 ddr5 handles buts its a good *** card seeing as its the only nvidia card with ddr5.
