It's definately unnecessary: the only time I selected iron sights marksman rifle was when I accidentally right-clicked that kit. The option should be removed to avoid this since you cant reverse or cancel your selections.

AFAIK, not for type 88.Excavus wrote:The point? For fun. Ever heard of that term before? I don't think so.
And yes there are ironsight versions for other marksman rifles.
I tried right clicking and still got scope.
The unscoped version still shoot well on deployed mode.
It gives me a little "CQB sniper" feel, which causes me to lol everytime I play around with ironsight marxman kit.

The M21 unscoped is the 2nd best gun for knocking down bots in co-op close range.

I love the Dragunov with irons, it just looks a bit weird with the wooden stock and polymer handguard. Still awesome tho.
This signature is here due to lack of imagination.

You can always choose to not use the ironsight. Anyways, it can be more useful in small ranged targets, you can right away get your gun into aim and eliminate your enemy.

Well the M14 has iron sights so my brother can waste a whole squad lined in an alleyway at close range. It is surprisingly accurate on the move per repeated shot.

Besides I actually find that this is a good asset in CQC as it offers great hip shot accuracy, RoF, and stopping power.
The one thing I think would make it more purposeful though would be giving the deployed position a little bit of a zoom to simulate the good sight of a Designated Marksman.

The point of an iron sigth marksmen rifle is usually so your enemy doesn't find your kit appealing, Yet you are very deadly at medium to close range.

LOL and what if I'm your enemy? And I find it MORE appealing?Operator009 wrote:The point of an iron sigth marksmen rifle is usually so your enemy doesn't find your kit appealing
Choosing a kit according to what (you think) the enemy might like or dislike is your first step towards failure.

Re: Marksman Rifle Ironsights-whats the point?
some guys are still issued with an M14, unscoped. base security, checkpoints, etc, etc. maybe a marksman, who usually has a scope on his rifle, is pulling guard duty for some reason thus, he'd take the scope off because he wouldn't need it.
here's some evidence. humourous, yet infomative
check the guy's rifle

I remember that Simo Hayha didn't use a scope to decrease his silhouette. Ergo, if you want to be slaying bodies, high speed low drag, take your ironsights Mosin Nagant

I say remove it unless it is used by regular forced. A dedicated source would be nice =)

Re: Marksman Rifle Ironsights-whats the point?
Honestly, the only reason I never request a marksman rifle without the scope is because it is so limited. The primary use of it is to engage targets medium to long ranges. Limiting it to just a few kits really emphasizes that role of the gun. I use it in co-op all the time as a bot slaying weapon, and it is VERY effective once you get good with it. I wish I could bring myself to request it in deployment, but I think that would be considered a waste of a kit due to it's limited requestablity.
Unscoped M21 = awesome (in co-op)

Re: Marksman Rifle Ironsights-whats the point?
Nice comments over time made me understand some things. However I say get rid of it because its not standard issue in combat other than security/drill, ceremony roles so even though it may work well for certain things isn't PR about realistic equipment?
I'd say for some armies keep it as a option if it is fairly realistic for those armies to use it, but instead for like the US have the SDM-R M16(Marines), and the SAM-R(Army), as a right click option. Differences would be that more traditional marksmens have more range and power in the bullets, and the M16's just more like a little more than ACOG type weapon.
Also some fractions like British and Israeli fractions should have no option as they just use one type of rifle on a general basis, and probably would not have a ironsights version.

Re: Marksman Rifle Ironsights-whats the point?
Well, the M14 is and EBR (Enhanced Battle Rifle) variants are in the regular assault type weapons so naturally they probably won't come with a sniper scope unless it's like ACOG, Red Dot etc. The M21 on the other hand is more of a sniper variant so yeah. Although in some cases of a tactical stealth operation, the EBR can come with a scope.
