I'm not even sure how we could have a Vietnam game without the m60... it defined that conflict almost as much as the huey or napalm did.

The US automatic rifleman in Vietnam just had a bipod for his M16 (or M14E2, for the very short time it was fielded) and was designated to use automatic fire, being the base of fire for his team. The M60s were organic to a rifle platoon weapons squad (Army; 2 x M60 teams and 2 x 90mm RR teams) or rifle company weapons platoon (Marines; 6 x M60 teams, 6 x 90mm RR assaultman teams + 60mm section), so on average there were two of them to an infantry platoon under standard TO&E.

It will be in game, but it will not be as frequent as 1 per squad.

[Edit]Note that this is for the conventional infantry units. Specialist units like the Air Cavalry "Blue" Platoons had their own TO&E which included an M60 team and an RTO in each 10-man rifle squad (4 of them), and the SEALs might have up to 4 belt fed MGs in a 12-16 man platoon. But once again, PR:V is focusing on "Joe Grunt."

nah I guess they'll be using the m294 saw with 6x telescopic sight, flashlight, bayonet and 2m of railz

on a more serious note though, I never knew about the bipod m16 on full auto, I though that due to bad discipline(which won't be really hard to recreate in pr) everybody just used full auto fire, causing the army to reevaluate the m16's to include burst fire instead of full auto in the a2 version. what would make the one bipod guy special then except for the bipod?

So the M60 will not be the automatic rifleman you can spawn with just like in PR:BF2?

Wells thats an interesting perspective Eddie. I would have thought it'd be perfect to fill that role. Is this a foreshadow that PR:V isnt going to be going along the same lines at PR with the limited kit system?

The US Army in the Vietnam War 1965-73 - Google Books

has some info on it. Bottom of page 30.

I imagine PR:V will very much follow the PR kit system, Eddie was just saying that M60's will be less common, like sniper kits rather than SAW kits in terms of availability. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

Btw, although the M16 with XM3 bipod was the auto rifleman in the TO&Es, that same book states:
The way platoons really looked on the ground bore
little resemblance to TO&Es. Platoon strength was
typically 20-30 men organized into two or three
squads. The fire team concept was often abandoned,
and in such cases even assistant squad leaders were
not designated. The weapons squad usually ceased to
exist. The two M60s were either assigned directly
to rifle squads, sometimes with a third added, or to
the platoon headquarters. Often assistant machine
gunners used rifles, and gunners did not bother with
pistols. Rifle squads often had only five to eight men.

hmm, I still feel like the m60's shouldnt be limited to the idea of 2-3 per team (ex. sniper). but we'll see how it plays out. Does "Grenadier" = the Thumper? :D
