Side or rear, If I recall correctly, if you hit the turret ring it can cause the round to ricochet and kill in one shot. Also the glass on the commanders view on the abrams used to be bugged, not sure anymore though.

If possible hit the top that's a 1 shot kill so is the back. 2 shots to the sides will do it or 3 to the front. If you're only able to hit the front aim for the treads or the turret.

make sure you have ap rounds on aswell. Heat rounds won't be as effective

i don't know how it is in pr but i'm guessing that it is very similar to real life..
where i think you should hit
1.between tower and the body
2.rear
3.side

Re: best place to hit a tank HELP!!!!
i had once a situation on muttrah vehicle warfare where my gunner would hit enemy tank twice in the rear with APDS rounds, despite that it didn't even start smoking. This wasn't a one time situation, as this occured a couple of times. It was certainly strange, but on other maps the abrams chews through armor like a hot knife through butter, so i don't know what was the problem.

Generally like others have said, the top and the rear are the weakest, then the sides, then the front but if you really want to know excatly where each tank's weak spots are you can always load them up in the editor and take a peak at there col meshes. Here's a post I made ages ago on it.
Rhino']

Now if i switch on to show the Decal Col Mesh (which is what is used to detect where bullets hit it etc) this is how it looks.

Now basically each colour you see there is a diffrent materail. Depending on what the bullet / shell hits, will determine how much damage is done to the tanks HP.
List of what each mat is:

our turret / track disabling is done randomly as its the only way we can do it since our python code can not detect where the object has been hit, only how much HP it has. So there is a % chance that it will happen, and that is all, best we can do on this engine.
Now at the same time I can show you the exact problem with the M1A2's col mesh here why it is soo easy to kill. Now we all know in the BF2 engine, if you shoot a bullet at a angle on a surface at a flat angle, it will bounce off it like in r/l. The problem is, it also dose this for tank shells. What happens is the front of the M1A2 is a pretty flat surface, and shooting from the same level onto its front, makes the shell bounce off the front, even thou its a bounce it classes as 1 hit. Now its again in mid flight, and the next thing it hits is the underside of the turret which is not as armored, and classes as anouther hit on a softer bit of armor, which kills the tank.

We cant edit the col mesh without the max files and we would have to reimport it again anyways if we did so we cant really fix it.
correct, here we have the vbf2 M1A2 in the BF2 editor.Losus_Deliosus" wrote:I'm not completely sure, but I think they can only control the degree of damage done to the vehicle depending on the location (using different materials on the vehicles), don't think they can intercept where the vehicle was hit and do something like vehicles subsystem damage with the BF2 engine.

Is that valid for all tanks?

each tank is unique, but you can load them in the editor to see the differences, but the principles should be the same.

He means which shell? The AP or HE. You gotta use AP rounds on heavy armored vehicles.
AP=Armor Piercing
HE=High Explosive(for light vehicles and infantry)
Its kinda funny I sometimes run into tanks who keep shooting me with HE rounds to the sides and our tank is still in full mobility after the battle, hehe

Join Russian team and use the ATGM + one more AP shell for sure kill.
That is, if the map has it.

Re: best place to hit a tank HELP!!!!
I thought the dev's fixed the abrams???????.
OK this is good to know, if you hit the top hatch it counts as 2 damage then judging by it color.
petty the dev's removed the training servers, was a good place to test this stuff out.

Re: best place to hit a tank HELP!!!!
I always go for the tracks and sides of the turret if the tank is looking at me, always kills in two shots and doesn't risk the chance of not hitting that sweet spot under the turret which used to be a huge issue but seems to have been mostly resolved.
