Yeah, the tut is a little weak IMO. I used the tut that andy mentioned earlier along with this, and kinda pieced things together: FH2 mapping tutorials - Create bf2 heightmaps with Geocontrol
You don't actually need a .dem file to import to Microdem, the .asc files you can get from google earth using SRTM 4.1 will import just fine. Then it's just a matter of finding the correct geographic area and slicing the map down.

Re: [Tutorial] How to make awsome maps with DEM and GEO2 [IMG HEAVY!]]
[FIXED WRONG RES]
Im having a weird problem.
Trying to make a 4km 1024 island map.
In microdem and photoshop it looks fine.
http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/vv17 ... oblem3.jpg
In GeoControl 2 it looks fine, and it looks ok when I checked the exported file in photoshop too.
http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/vv17 ... oblem1.jpg
But once its in the Bf2 editor it takes up no resemblance of the above pictures.
Check the minimap below:
http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/vv17 ... oblem2.jpg
Does anyone know where Im going wrong, Ive followed the tutorial, and tried it many times with the same result.
Please help

you need to change your TerrainSettings in the same tab were you change the sky
+LevelSettings
- TerrainHeight 163[sth like 163 is default i think] play around with this number set it to 500 or 1000

The terrain height is not the problem, the heightmap seems to have become warped or streched when it gets into the editor.
I drew along the corners and center of the heightmap to show you what i mean. (THEY ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN RED)
IN PHOTOSHOP

IN THE EDITOR (with water so it sticks out on the minimap)

Fixed.
Somehow the resolution was changed to 1024x1024, changing it to 1025x1025 fixed it.

Re: [Tutorial] How to make awsome maps with DEM and GEO2 [IMG HEAVY!]]
when I installed it was like that... Window and tools dont have any options that are related to that window.
P.S. found it! my build has a different layout. Those buttos're now in the main menu, in modify, in a sub section Map area...
Just got an headace
P.S.2. Just found an button that puts those buttons in the right spot... headace now even bigger...

The newer versions of Google Earth don't show the SRTM4.1 grids or download links. If anyone has found a way around this, please update us.
For now, I'm finding a coordinate using Google Earth and then manually typing that into the search function here: http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/SELECTION/inputCoord.asp

Try going to your IMAGE tab and adjusting the size to 1025x1025 then exporting the psd back out as a RAW.
