Heh, it's a bit late to be asking the question you are meaning to ask In the first place now that everyone voted, MasaqI own neither but I would if PR:BF2 supported it

The question is who actually has one. I imagine that there will be another of these in the future, but I was wondering who would actually use Free/Track IR if it was modded into PR.Teek wrote:Heh, it's a bit late to be asking the question you are meaning to ask In the first place now that everyone voted, Masaq

This wasn't a poll to find out if PR *should* be trying to incorporate TIR support into PR:BF2, ie, if there'd be a market for it... it was in response to BloodBane's interest and wish to know if many in the community had one, as his impression was very much that it was still a niche product even in a fairly hardcore group of gamers - which the numbers suggest it is.

frankly I would only use the trackIR if I had 3 or 6 curved monitors so i can look left or right with my head and not have my eyes stick to the monitor.
There is only one unforgivable lie That is the lie that says, This is the end, you are the conqueror, you have achieved it and now all that remains is to build walls higher and shelter behind them. Now, the lie says, the world is safe.? The Great Khan.

Why would you need track IR if these 6 monitors would render everything correctly around you?karambaitos wrote:frankly I would only use the trackIR if I had 3 or 6 curved monitors so i can look left or right with my head and not have my eyes stick to the monitor.
track IR is "simulating" the motions. For example you have to turn your head in for 10° to turn ingame 45°....
whatever... /me wantz 6 monitors for PR:Arma2 with 12.000*1080
Sorry for my bad english ^_^'

That would make having TrackIR pointless though...?

Re: How many own a TrackIR?
I found Dslyecxi's Blog and Youtube channel almost a year ago , I have not bought a TrackIR yet because I rarely play FlightSimX and that is the only game I have that is fully compatible. When i last bought a webcam i bought one specifically compatible with FreeTrack, I've also got the LED lights and just been too lazy to build the 3 point light hat,
Since then I found the PR mod.
I WILL buy a TrackIR if there is a PR mod for ARMA II , I will also buy ARMA II . And I have to buy a 3rd monitor with Eyefinity.
You guys are going to cost me something like US$450 to get up and running to play ARMA II, even more if I upgrade my CPU, RAM, and gaming headphones, and if I buy the gaming keypad the ARMA II community recommends.

ARMA 2 supports FreeTrack natively since Patch 1.05:[R-COM]SnipingCoward wrote:I looked into it, figured that TrackIR is way too expensive for my budget.
So I went on, baught a cheap web cam, some IR-LEDs and built the Hardware myself (removed the IR filter fromt he cam, soldered together the LEDs, resistors and battery pack and mounted that on some styrofoam that I could attach to my headset), I then went on to use FreeTrack. It actually worked in FreeTrack 2.2 but I think I never got it to run with Arma2. I might try it again when PR:ARMA2 is released.

Arma 2: Patch v1.05 - Bohemia Interactive Community
Maybe I'll get that Treetrack thing too... why spend 170 € on an TrackIR ?

I'll probably get it once PR:A2 is out, hard to justify it for BF2 imo (no free look or leaning)

From the description....
Mmmmmmm**PREVIEW** of FreeTrack 6DOF head tracking in Battlefield 2 v1.41 online in ranked PunkBuster enabled servers.
Works in the following vehicle positions for vanilla BF2:
Transport vehicle driver.
Helicopter pilot.
Aircraft pilot.
Bomber copilot.
Also works with majority of vehicles in Project Reality and should work for most vehicles in other BF2 mods as well.

Re: How many own a TrackIR?
Hey all, first post.
Just wanna say that Freetrack is freakin' awesome (so is TrackIR)
I made myself an LED hat about a year and a half ago, and its still working great. I've been using it for IL-2 and some other games. In fact, I was just playing Arma with it a few minutes ago. It works amazingly well, and I only paid about $30 Canadian for my whole kit, INCLUDING the soldering iron I needed to build it with. I've never used TrackIR and can't directly compare, but I can say that Freetrack works nicely for me. Everything is responsive (little to no input lag) and I don't get any jitters. As far as I know, my homemade sub-$30 hat works just as well as the $150+ TrackIR set.
As far as Arma support goes, there shouldn't be any problems with either system. Arma has supported TrackIR for as long as I can remember, and as of version 1.05, it also supports Freetrack!
However if you're stuck on 1.04 or below and want to try Freetrack, you still can! If you search their forums you can find what's basically a Freetrack crack, and it worked great for me.
But how useful is it ingame? hmmm.
If you're on foot, its usefulness is kind of limited. If you're an FPS player and youre running around, you'll probably be alot more comfortable scanning with your mouse. However as soon as you go prone, turning around becomes very slow and cumbersome, and the ability to move your head independently becomes a huge asset.
Hoooowever, if you do alot of flying, Freetrack is completely indispensable.. Words just cannot describe how freakin' useful it is. At this point I basically cannot fly without freetrack. When I try, I find myself involuntarily moving my head around, as if my view is going to move with it. haha.
so yeah. If you're a hands-on kinda person and think you can rig something up, I would strongly suggest going with Freetrack. Its a very fun, easy (and cheap) project and its EXTREMELY rewarding when you get it to work. The functionality it provides is TOTALLY worth the ~$30.

You need a poll option that says WTF is Freetack or TrackIR?
Also, its just way too expensive for my taste, I'd rather buy a new GFX card or something with that kind of money.
Also, you just can't use it for too many games, so you're pretty much wasting your money in my opinion.
