Trans Heli Location-Drop Question
Hi
I always wonder how people on trans heli squad know where to drop
troops off (Ex. B4KP2 etc etc)
Because I love it when I'm the squad leader and I have the move marker so
I don't have to worry if I mis-drop them
So my question is, how do you know where to drop them off?
Do you look at your map and remember it? I always have a hard time doing that
I once looked at the map while flying then I crashed because I keep forgetting
Any advice would be great

Re: Trans Heli Location-Drop Question
I look at my map really quick but if it needs to be fast I ask the SL to place a marker but if its a map with plenty of landmarks like Muttrah for example they say at docks they usually mean by the Warehouses which you can see from afar or on kashan you only dont need markers or to look at your map when u have flown for a long time in PR on most maps.

Re: Trans Heli Location-Drop Question
Just have a visual picture in your head of where the people asked to be dropped. I mean if you can't remember a general area on the map for 1 min or so, we can't really help you, that's a memory issue lol. If it helps, if the area where they asked to be dropped is near a flag, just fly towards the flag and then look where they asked to be dropped.
Hope I helped,
Ohais

Re: Trans Heli Location-Drop Question
I usually don't fly without a marker down, preferably with someone in the squad as a designated navigator. Lol.
But if I have to (perhaps due to both helicopters in flight and on different missions) I take a quick gander at the map before taking off and then eyeball it. It's a good job that I have photographic memory.

Re: Trans Heli Location-Drop Question
When you fly as much as some of us on some maps, all you need to do is take a quick glance at the map and you know exactly where it is. Like Muttrah, I know the map that well enough to take a peek and land right in the area they want.

the best pilots use their minimap to guide them, but when they are actually on sight, they use their own eyes to see the safest LZ, as well as checking for enemy contact.
as long as you get them down in one piece and get your helo out safe...its a sucessful landing.

I sometimes us the M key, it lets you bring up a large map and still fly. That way I can look at it on the way there.

Once the guys wanting to be transported give me their destination, I take one quick look at the map and know where I need to go. No need for markers or any other shenanigans.

Re: Trans Heli Location-Drop Question
I have the map binded on the button at the left side of my mouse, really easy to check the map while in flight. And just like other people said, once u've flown for a while in PR, you know the maps by memory. And can drop that squad exactly where they want to go just by a quick glance at the map, check the LZ for any landmarks and fly somewhere around the LZ and check your minimap for that landmark.

You can make your map (M-key) more transparent, so you can see, where you fly while looking on the map.

Thats what i do, just keep pressing N to change the scale on the map the closer i get to the LZ.[R-CON]Rudd wrote:the best pilots use their minimap to guide them, but when they are actually on sight, they use their own eyes to see the safest LZ, as well as checking for enemy contact.

Re: Trans Heli Location-Drop Question
I perfer markers if possible, then you know the distance and when you need to be diving/ throttling down depending on how your landing, although its more than possible to judge distance by eye
Personally I look at the grid they've said, most of the time its slap bang where the enemy is, so its better for both them and you, if you use their requests as a guidline only, when you've flown for a while in pr all the safe landing areas will be known to you, use them instead of the suicidal drop right on top of the enemys head areas. At the end of the day Helicopter>infantry, heli looses 11 tickets, the infantry loose 6.

Re: Trans Heli Location-Drop Question
On pretty much every map I just take a quick look at where the coordinates are (say D3 K5 on Muttrah) and go "Right, north of the warehouses".
But on Yamalia it's another story. Marker is a must for exact drops, otherwise you gotta keep taking the map out. Which is not a huge deal, but I prefer not to.

Re: Trans Heli Location-Drop Question
Take your time and dont take off before you can remember where they want to go
Let em shout "GOGOGOGO" - whatever. you are in control and can take the time you need.
You can also make the minimap zoom out a bit to get a better look on it while flying. (normally N key)
If you dont land on the exact keypad they want (which is most of the time right on top of the enemy) it doesn't matter if you landed safe and all live
