question concerning old maps

Post by rough77 »

I don't know why maps like EJOD or GHOST TRAIN were removed - it's the devs decision. but I don't know any other game, that removes (!) maps... why can't the players/the server admin decide which maps they wanna use?

I'm missing EJOD - it's a very nice map and with jeeps + inf only it would still be great, it was simply unbalanced.

So: why do the DEVs remove maps?
thx

I think maps are removed to keep the install file size under control and some maps are too small or simply don't have the gameplay PR needs.

They were much too small for PRs evolving gameplay. They were good maps at the time, but you added them back in at this time it would not be quite as enjoyable due to the poliferation of scopes and zooming mounted weapons, not to mention the new TOW and FOB distance restrictions, so you would end up with maybe 1 firebase in the good part of the map TOW sniping the entire team or raping with the HMG bunkers

Maps get removed for number of reasons. Could be they are no longer played, poor optimization, too small, too exploitive, artist choice, team choice, file size concerns, many other issues.

Allot of these maps are retired until a community mod needs maps to jump start the faction.

Do you know of any other game that regularly adds new maps, vehicles, factions, assets and statics?

Or any other game where the gameplay is constantly tweaked and improved?
Or an other game that ever had that many maps in use.

Don´t worry though the good maps will most likely return when they are updated to the new game standard

Retro map packs - much fun, even with the short viewing distances.
So many good old maps.

One FOB, couple MG - who builds first and in the best location wins - short game but fun.

The evolution of PR is outstanding and the community has only grown over the years.

It's good dev's have the will to evaluate gameplay and get rid of maps/stuff that doesn't work with the rest of the elements. Also hated OGT with passion, finally it's gone :P
