Re: LAT vs. chinook/other chopper
i think if anything the chinooks should be a little more resilient when being hit by RPG's and or shaped charges as in reality most of the current generation flying in the ME are now fitted with anti-spall liner and internal fire suppresion equipment, which greatly diminish the effectiveness of the monroe effect.

Thanks, that is VERY helpful.BobTheSilensious wrote:Heres goes one of another Bob's investigation

Now I go take LAT kits instead of AA kits(hate flare spam).
PR's LAT are really good because they fly very fast (to me, they seem to fly as fast as bullets).

Glad it help you, but still, best things against transport heli are HAT and AA(if you manage to get a lock...). However, attack choppers dont stand a chance against you for now

AA is absolutely horrible due to flare spam. At the moment TOW's are the best AA around if you have someone half-decent operating it.BobTheSilensious wrote:Glad it help you, but still, best things against transport heli are HAT and AA. I've always wondered, is there an art to firing an AA? like...fire just before the tone?

In my experience that often helps, sometimes flares dont always work. Ive had instances where the pilot dropped no flares and managed to survive, but also where ive dropped plenty of flares and still got a lock and been shot down.Operator009 wrote:I've always wondered, is there an art to firing an AA? like...fire just before the tone?
I think quite often its luck.

Re: LAT vs. chinook/other chopper
when i use the aa kit i make sure the sam locks onto the helo before firing but most of the time when the helo pilot detects they are being locked onto they tend to turn tail and run to avoid bieng shot down the closer you get the more likely you'll be shot down. the smart pilots don't usualy come any closer once they know there is a aa kit being used in the area

Re: LAT vs. chinook/other chopper
much like using a mig you dont want to lock onto the target till its within range. dont want them knowing you are there. the less distance the lockon is the less the flare will spread when you fire..... killing them anyways.

Re: LAT vs. chinook/other chopper
the message i like to make them realize is if they keep coming they might die so they tend to stay away knowing there is a threat in the area ahead of them

Re: LAT vs. chinook/other chopper
Ideally you want to fire aa at the rear of a heli flying away, if not at front, don´t rely on firing perpendicular, if its urgent fire before tone, if not fire as soon as you get it (quick reflexes here).
"Today's forecast calls for 30mm HE rain with a slight chance of hellfires"
"oh, they're fire and forget all right...they're fired then they forget where the target is"
