Hi, I'm new to the forums but have been around since .87 on/off. I didn't know where exactly to post this so sorry if I was wrong. It seems to me that there needs to be an addendum to the PR server license. (Link = https://www.realitymod.com/forum/licenseapp.php).
The very first line, quoted, reads "...some unfortunate intentions of some server administrators since the Project Reality v0.6 release, the Project Reality team will no longer be freely distributing licenses to run Project Reality...". Going on the explain that the servers will now require a LICENSE to operate.
However, there is no clause to protect the individual player from administrators. I find that odd, since there should atleast be a clause along the lines of "...administration are not permitted to deny access to the game server based on race, sex, religion, political views..."
Basically, I'm asking you to give the rights back to the people who support you, and let admins ADMINISTRATE, not ADJUCATE. If you let them hold their own little trials where rules are literally theirs to shape on the fly, you get THIS situation.

It ended with me going on vent and being banned from the only servers (that are even remotely populated at the only time I can play) because I SOUND like someone they banned before. For hacking no less. Despite my offering to watch the BR again and again to see, they merely said 'Better safe than sorry'.
I think somewhere just below the surface, every PR gamer feels like a surf compared to the admins. We all want just the security to not fall victim to what is tantamount to 'guilty untill proven innocent'.

Re: Adendum to the PR license
Servers are free to make up their own rules within the license agreement and whilst any server discriminating on the basis of race, religion etc is deplorable (although hard to believe) it is not something that the PR Team can regulate or enforce in any way, and it certainly isn't a region that the team would want to get into anyway given the colossal amount of work it would require to regulate (if at all).
The simple advice is if you don't like how the admins on a particular server operate then do not play there.

You know as well as I do that its not about which server we think is best, its about which server happens to be populated at the given time. If there is more than one, great, but if there is one server thats 64 and the runner up is 5, its not hard to see the conundrum.Jigsaw wrote:Servers are free to make up their own rules within the license agreement and whilst any server discriminating on the basis of race, religion etc is deplorable (although hard to believe) it is not something that the PR Team can regulate or enforce in any way, and it certainly isn't a region that the team would want to get into anyway given the colossal amount of work it would require to regulate (if at all).

If you would like to continue giving regular people the ability to be GOD, literally allowing access to the game or not, you go right ahead. But I know a lot of people who would LOVE to see some sort of 'bill of rights' for the players of pr.
Admins as they have nothing restricting them from singling players out and literally ending the game for them.

Well they are paying for the server so, imo it would be bit wrong to regulate them on things they put their money into.

Re: Adendum to the PR license
You're missing the point, how would this "bill of rights" ever be governed or regulated? You seem to expect the PR Team to sit down and adjudicate on every dispute between players and admins but believe me the team would pretty much have to double in size to even make that possible and given that this is all done on our own free time it is, as Turk would say:
Also, it absolutely is about which server we think is best. I don't know what time you are able to play but i'll assume its about now and there are two US servers full atm with a couple more partially populated. As I said you can't just mindlessly join the server that happens to have the most people on, vote with your feet and choose quality over quantity.

There are server feedback threads on this forum, if you do not like a server, post up why there; if your points are valid you will have warned the rest of teh community about a bad server; and hopefully no one will play there.
in the UK at least there is always at least 2 choices of server with low pings and around 6 with acceptable pings, so choice isn't an issue.

I will move the thread...[R-CON]Rudd wrote:There are server feedback threads on this forum, if you do not like a server, post up why there; if your points are valid you will have warned the rest of teh community about a bad server; and hopefully no one will play there.

Oh and jigsaw, as far as implementation goes its rather simple. One screenshot can say a thousand words, and whistle blowers should be encouraged to point out injustices.
[edit]
and as of this time, the only two servers available are H with 64 or Reality China with 34 and a 400 ping.

bahlye wrote:Ok That does sound a tad harsh, but we have only heard your side of the story so far.
How does your problem with the administration of the server in question fall under any of those categories ?.
administrate ....
to manage or direct (the affairs of a business, institution, etc.)
adjudicate ...
1. To hear and settle (a case) by judicial procedure.
2. To study and settle (a dispute or conflict)
Server Admins do both, we don't have a legal team on standby (Well I do ..but thats because my sister is a lawyer..).
Most servers have a bunch of admins that report to (/can be held accountable for their actions) to a Head Admin/Admins which leads to frequently needing to get to the bottom of any ban appeals that turn up by checking any reports by admins of the player in question, finding the banning admin, getting their version and yes, viewing BR files if required then making a decision based on the available facts.
Ok you got banned, and you obviously feel that it was though no actions on your behalf, be that in game or after the fact, but the bottom line is that Server Administrators decide who plays on their servers not the players.
Having a public rant about a particular server is a sure fire way to get yourself perma banned from it.
don't know if you have been following along closely or not but I am already perma banned from the server. In fact, H has gone to the lengths of deleting WHY i was banned off their forums. Personally, I feel a great loss because now I can only play for about an hour a day or untill the TG server empties out (early...). So let me ask you this, do you want every other new player that sounds familiar to be banned? Is that even a bannable offence?! "You sound like generic male voice c, so you cannot play Project Reality kthnx". I have made every effort to tell the whole truth, and H has not even rebutted why I was banned. They merely erased a couple posts (one of which was a link in this original post). Believe me, they know of this posts existance.
NOTICE____
I am going to repost this thread when I achieve the proper amount of posts to post in the server feedback forum, so lets all take a break and start this convo again when the proper channels are followed.

No.
And don't bother posting in SA forums. This is NOT a topic for discussion. Server admins are free to run their servers how they please. Badly admined servers should be avoided. It's such a simple concept, yet people seem completely unable to grasp it.
Simple analogy: Imagine you're a non-smoker. If I invited you into my home, would you complain if I smoked non-stop in front of you? Would you take action to prevent me from smoking in my own house, or would you just not come back? My home. My rules.
