Carl Gustav for HAT kit?
The Australian community mod is working on a m3 Carl Gustav recoilless rifle:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f206-a ... 3-wip.html
The US has used this weapon for a really long time {its being phased out now} including during the Vietnam war. Would it be possible to use this weapon for the US HAT kit in PR:V? The Carl Gustav is a much bigger and more powerful weapon than the LAW, so maybe the LAW can be the LAT and the Carl Gustav can be the HAT?

The LAW was sufficent at taking down and russian tank up to a T-54, did they use it in Vietnam? TBH it would probalby been to heavy to lug around in the jungle(s)

The Carl Gustav was never used by the US until the mid to late 1980s, and then only with the Ranger Regiment and other SOF. As far as I know there is no plan to phase it out soon.charliegrs wrote:The US has used this weapon for a really long time {its being phased out now} including during the Vietnam war. There was, however, the M67 90mm Recoilless Rifle (not Carl Gustav). The Ranger Regiment was the last to use them in combat (Grenada) and bought the CGs to replace them.
Yes, the M72 LAW was first introduced to service in Vietnam.Hitman.2.5 wrote:The LAW was sufficent at taking down and russian tank up to a T-54, did they use it in Vietnam? TBH it would probalby been to heavy to lug around in the jungle(s)
And yes, the M67 90mm RR and M20 3.5" bazooka were most often left at the base in Vietnam, especially after the LAW was introduced, because of the weight and lack of many armored targets in theater. But I'm sure some units liked the 90mm flechette round enough to want to keep the M67s around.

Re: Carl Gustav for HAT kit?
well i guess this question of HAT or no HAT and LAT or no LAT is all dependant on the maps that are going to be present in PRV
if the NVC have tanks on a more open map.. then LAT's (LAW's) will be needed (at the very least) simple as that and vice versa; against US amour the NVC will need RPG's this is pramount to gameplay, regardless of realism
i mean its indisputable, the LAW was present during vietnam (maybe not used much) but present and accessable noneless
should be up to the Squad Leader what available weaponry they want the squad to carry into combat.. decisions like that make or break a squad in regular pr and i think it should remain that way in prv

to be honest, unless there's a Lang Vei, Ben Het, Easter Offensive (we'd be fighting at the ARVN) or an SOG style cambodia/laos map, i don't want to see any North Vietnamese armour. it'd just make it like battlefield vietnam all over again "oh look it's 1967 and the Viet Cong have a T54"

I have to second this. I think a map or two with some NVA armor would be cool but for the most part I think they shouldnt be on any maps. I was always under the assumption that NVA armor was extremely rare.TheOldBreed wrote:to be honest, unless there's a Lang Vei, Ben Het, Easter Offensive (we'd be fighting at the ARVN) or an SOG style cambodia/laos map, i don't want to see any North Vietnamese armour. it'd just make it like battlefield vietnam all over again "oh look it's 1967 and the Viet Cong have a T54"

Re: Carl Gustav for HAT kit?
VC didn't have tanks, NVA did, T55s and T62 IIRC
EDIT:Woah, my bad, they used only T54s and PT76.

acccording to a book i read about the battle for hamburger hill which was well researched and with interveiws with the peaple there the 10st had recoiless rifles with them and used them to destroy NVA bunkers.
as for other units i have never heard that they did use them or not. i have seen photos of the marines useing them in Hue but they where probably brought in special for the battle.

The NVA were known to use a few soviet tanks, notably during the Tet Offensive. The important distinction between the Viet Minh (or Viet Cong) and the North Vietnamese army is that the former were a guerilla unit and the latter a conventional army.Hitman.2.5 wrote:Did the VC even have Tanks, I thought they were guerrillas, or r u on about in BFV?

Re: Carl Gustav for HAT kit?
well i talked to a good friend of the family he was a vietnam vet had his medivac chopper shot down he was the only survivor anyways getting off subject i asked him how often he seen drop units leave base with LAW's he said that about 1 in 3 squads had a law for bunker popping MG nests etc. and a infantry suppressing weapon the law was more widely used then people say or it could of just been where my friend was stationed that they used so many it depends i suppose anyways he also said that some squads that had what they called big motha's back then like animallover outta full metal jacket would carry a recoilless rifles with them as well as another person with a law but keep in mind back then squads were normally around 10 people and a lot of the time they would leave in platoons hope that clears some stuff up

Re: Carl Gustav for HAT kit?
why not just have the LAT kit for all factions have only 1 RPG round/LAW rocket and have the HAT kit carry lets say 3 or 4?
