Re: Are DVI cables compatible?
DVI dual link is only needed for resolutions that are bigger than 1920x1200 (So 2560x1440 or 2560x1600), otherwise the connectors are compatible with a single link cable.
For instance, atm my monitor and GCard both have Dual-link DVI ports, however I'm only using a single-link cable to connect them.
Hope this helps

cool, also if I have a VGA cable and use the converter thing on it to hook up with my gfx card, will it loose any detail?

Re: Are DVI cables compatible?
The converter won't really cause much distortion itself, as all it is doing it taking the Analogue signal from a DVI-I connection and remapping the connections into VGA. Due to the distance this is, little/no quality loss occurs.
In terms of using a VGA cable, it can make a large difference if you have a bad cable, however if you have a nice, thick, shielded (And normally expensive :/) cable, the quality difference will be little/none.

No,but it will disable HDCP function.ma21212 wrote:cool, also if I have a VGA cable and use the converter thing on it to hook up with my gfx card, will it loose any detail?
For DVI one is "D" and one is "I,with less pins, and lower resolution.
