Re: Show your models thread...(IMAGE HEAVY)
Less than 5k tris is good, and it looks excellent!
Z-trooper, that looks awesome! I remember seeing some old renders of him earlier, really looking amazing now.
I should post up some new renders of my mosque, but until I do that, anyone have/know of a really good tutorial for doing high poly->low poly bake? I've found a couple that are helpful, but none that fully explain everything with a version of max later than 7.

Sadly I have no experience of max so I can't really help you. Have you considered using xNormal though, apparently that's very good for baking models, and from trying it it's fairly quick and easy too.[R-COM]BloodBane611 wrote:Less than 5k tris is good, and it looks excellent!

Modeled a high poly grip + baked to low poly, <3 blender's baking, a couple of buttons and you can get a quick test done ^_^, it's a bit iffy on the quality front though.
left is 6.5k tris, right is 104

45k is quite high, is that because it has an interior, or is everything uni-meshed?'[R-COM wrote:BloodBane611;1339029']

Having a go at modular parts, same part is repeated 6 times. Im going to try and do some stairs for a modular set. (textures obviously from cg textures).

In my mind there is no question that modular parts are the most helpful thing you can ever do to yourself when it comes to CG. With a few well thought out pieces you are able to make vast environments or alter a single character to become dozens of different individuals.
Obviously used across the board in all games as it is an effective solution in terms of performance too as well as production time effective.
Keep it up.
A tip...
Make some odd objects to place here and there, for instance a light or poster and it will break up the 'environment' instantly as you have stuff to focus on and not look for tilings...

Nice, sep, however you've reversed the hull MG and driver's vision port. Should be the MG on the right and the port on the left.
