Community request to EA regarding BF2 source codes

Post by Skull »

hi guys,

im kinda sick of readin the word "hardcoded" on this forums. everyone knows - especially the devs coders - how annoying the bf2 engine can be. how about forming an kinda official request to ea, signed by as much community members at possible, about letting us have the source codes. i dont get why they havent released it yet, since the engine isnt in use anymore. i know the 2000 signes we get at a maximum arent much, but its worth a try.

regards, skull

PS: sry if that was discussed before, didnt find anything

It has been many, many times.

I seriously doubt it's going to happen.

lol, for some reason, I thought this was your first post. :p

You say "the engine isnt in use anymore" but that's just the point. BF2 is still widely played but EA would prefer people to go out and buy new games. If PR extended the life of BF2 even further by essentially 'fixing' the engine or completing it with all the goodies we'd like, why would we bother with new games?

It's not in EA's interest at all as it's not going to pay off for them in the long run.

We're all pretty alone here in the PR world on that sort of thing, but just look how cozy and comfortable we are.
Don't you worry your pretty little head, PR2 will be all ours to enjoy and cherish.

I WAS on that road, but EA's changed, it seems, since 2009. I kinda feel like their doing something different, perhaps better. But I don't know yet.

Also, releasing all the proprietary code means that their competitors could use it as well (perhaps not in a product for money, but enough to suck cash from EA), and in general it's just a bad business decision. It's just not going to happen is the deal really.

Even if it was a small thing?

I would understand not releasing info about kit requesting.. but what about... hate to say something small like fastropes

my point was more about things like bullet/hit registration, map glitches (dying because of a stone on the ground) and so on

I wonder what changed your mind. With my Battlefield: Bad Company 2 experience, they are on the same track as before. I know that is an arcade game, a rather fun experience, but not in the long run. There is no fall damage, you can actually jump into a heli, hover at a high altitude, pick a spot, then jump out of it making the heli a JDAM withouth suffering any falling damage. Use the shotgun as a sniper :) , and others.

Just leave this here ;)

It's been discussed many times before, as mentioned, it's just bad business for EA.

I don't care about my kill ratio in bfbc 2, but when you run around with 0 deaths and go down, then after a revive you have a big 1 in your death ratio, it turns me off. People locking their squads for no good reason so the rest of the team gets left behind also turns me off. 32 players turns me off. Snipers driving tanks turns me off. Small maps turns me off. run n' gun modes turns me off.

If i don't find a decent server with teamplay soon i'm gonna explode. (if such servers exist)

What I really wan't to see in PR are 2 things:

More than 64 players
Many more than 8 players in vehicles

That's all I need.

Exactly, they just took a step backwards, once again. Every single one of the battlefield games needs a mod to be enjoyable. I wish they would leave games like that to consoles but all they think about is money. Mod teams like PR and FH are developers worth following, instead of handing out millions of dollars to ea everytime they release a game that looks like the rest.

WHAT YOU CANT HAVE GOOD THINGS IN LIFE just who do you think you are suggesting something like that, why it might be just too good to have

also EA havent released the source code for the first BF game or any other they have ever made its not like they are going to do it even if they fooled you by giving you 15 dollars on DLC
There is only one unforgivable lie That is the lie that says, This is the end, you are the conqueror, you have achieved it and now all that remains is to build walls higher and shelter behind them. Now, the lie says, the world is safe.? The Great Khan.

40k is deep like that.

no they just fool you with a worse version of bf1942 wrapped up in shiny graphics and call it bad company 2. then you pay 50 dollars for that.

Vanilla BC2 isn't any worse than vanilla BF2 lol; BC2 is just different. If PR combined with BC2, I think it would be an uber game, depending on how the engine can cope. But the simple fact that they cut 50% of their games for the fiscal 2010 year (they went from 50+ to about 30, and I know it's not because they lack money). Now I do have to admit though, they're still crappy, but their better than other companies.
